I'm sure this has been asked before, just can't find it.

Let's say I set up a wish list on the S3. I really want the S3 to record from the HD channel, when 2 channels are available - one analog, one HD, whenever possible. So when a match is found, I want TiVo to use the HD version of the channel.

It's my understanding that in order to do this, I could go through my list of high definition channels and then under "Channels You Receive", I could de-select the analog versions of those channels. Is that correct? Should I do that in all cases? For example, I get the regular version of local channel 8 (local NBC affiliate) on cable channel (8), and the HD version of local channel 8 on cable channel (608). Is there ever a drawback to doing this?

For specifically requested recordings or season passes I guess this wouldn't be an issue - I simply schedule them on the HD version of the channel. But in the case of wish lists, just wondering if this is the best way to go.

The drawback that I can see is that if you record a SD show, it will take up less space if you record it from the SD version of the channel.

(People are saying that the PQ would be better on the HD channel in any case, but you should test for yourself)

I just watched Survivor tonight via my CBS-HD channel. Even though it is SD it still looked way better then the SD version on got on one of my S2 TiVos.
