View Full Version : TiVo Can't Activate Series3?

I got my S3 from CC today, and have been going through Guided Setup. When I got to the activation part, the web site wouldn't let me activate online (said it didn't recognize my address), so I called the given number to activate on the phone.

Get this: the TiVo rep says that I got the unit too early, and they're not set up to activate the S3s yet (the ones from TiVo get shipped pre-activated she said). After I put up a fuss, she went and checked with a supervisor, who agreed. So, I'm using the 7-day trial until they get their act together. Not very smooth.

(BTW, the CableCARD thing is clunky, too. Guided setup is not nearly as smooth as it used to be, and for someone who isn't technical, I imagine it would be a nightmare.)

I just sub'd a 3 using a gift card for lifetime at 3:50 pm EST.

Might want to try them again as you obviously got an uninformed CSR.

I've also got 1 cablecard installed (the other will be here tomorrow per Time Warner). I found the guided setup to be pretty straightforward. You do need to go back through and select or unselect channels you receive after completing guided setup, but this is no change for someone who has been using a standalone with DirecTv for years.

I guess opinions on this unit are going to vary wildly........

I was also able to activate my Series3, not sure what you mean by clunky.
The only TiVo I ever owned was a HR10-250 and the guided setup went fine.

I realize that the title of this thread is no longer true ... but can't resist:

"There's nothing for Tivo to activate until they can actually ship the product"

(one of the very frustrated pay-overnight-shipping-to-get-the-box-in-a-week-or-so-VIP customers)
