The following was posted on the Yahoogroups Cablevision message board. It means nothing to me but I'd like to know if there is any truth here.

Thanks
Ken

once Cablevision uses switch-networking with more and more channels,
the less reliable any device with cablecard will be. It has to do with
the method of how the channel is delivered to only those desire it(not
the on-demand that we get with our cable boxes). It appears that since
the cable-card enabled device can't lock on to the permanent channel
then it may not be possible to receive it.

this is why I'd be leery of and cablecard device

Do a search for SDV, switched digital, switched broadcast, or switched video.

Lots of threads already about SDV ... for example ...

Well, they can receive them, you just don't know what channel you're going to be watching on that QAM at a given time.

Kind of like VOD. Some of it goes over unencrypted QAMs to your neighbors, people off your node, so you can watch what they are watching, and will see when they pause, rewind, and fast forward it as well.
