Transfer question/used tivo to series3

Sorry if this has been explained, but I've tried searching and can't find an answer.

I have a friend that has a tivo with a lifetime subscription that he doesn't need anymore. If I get the tivo from him, how do I transfer the "subscription/account details" to me? Also, after transferring the "ownership/subscription" to me, will I be able to take advantage of the vip transfer to the series 3?

Get the box, call Tivo customer service and give them the TSN (Tivo Service Number), your friend's email address that's on his account and have them transfer the box to your account (or set up an account for you, if you don't have one). Tivo can do this in about 5 minutes.

Then you will own the box, in Tivo's eyes. After that, you can take advantage of the vip offer.

You call TiVo and get the DVR trasnferred to your account, then you can proceed with the VIP program.
