Is the 3 year term sub for $299 offer only good if you buy the S3 directly from Tivo?

I just visited tivo.com, and it looks like that might be the case...
yet I ordered my S3 from CC an hour ago.

I got a bad feeling about this...

No, the $299 for 3 years is good no matter where you buy it. See http://www.tivo.com/activate

Stupid question here, but...

I have one TiVo box that was purchased "prepaid" for 1 year of service (my DT), and another (a 540 box) that was "free" with one year of service. My "main" TiVo (Pioneer) is the $12.95/month box.

So here's where I get confused.

a. Is there anywhere online that I can tell how much time I have left on my pre-pays before I get charged again? I thought I'd looked on my account, but I can't tell.

b. If I decide I have one TiVo too many and I give one to a friend, if it was "prepaid", can I discontinue it on my account, have the friend activate it on a new account, and it will still be prepaid for the friend until the time runs out? Or do I lose my prepaid sub if I deactivate the box?

I'll be activating the S3 Saturday, just trying to get a handle on what I should sub that box for (month to month, or longer).

Look at the activation date under manage my account.
