hi everyone...well leave it to a newbee to mess this up. ok here we go..a month ago my tivo would start doing rolling restarts every 7 to 10 mins..even when it was recording..so i did a master restart. it took about an hour, thinking it would wipe my hard drive clean and it would work fine again. and it did, for about 2 weeks. so sometimes it would just freeze and the remote would not work at all.
and sometimes, it would do the rolling restarts again..
now hears come the problem..i called tivo yesterday and talked to tech support. they told me my hard drive was shot. it is a seires 2 40 gig. and it has been hooked up for 1 year 1 month so i have to pay 149.99 for a new one..well i have a extra 120gig hard drive just sitting here so i figured i could do this
i looked at all these fourms and i needed ms tools. it would take a few hours to to copy my one hard drive to the other and to make sure the 10+1 and 10+1 are the same...ok i got real lost.....and i think i did the steps..but it took 30 secs..and i didnt burn a back up image.
i cant tell if my new hard drive is locked. it is a maxtor 120gb ata/133 hdd jumper set to master. but it has windows on it.
but one fourm i read it said" that it was fine the ms tools would take care of it"..then i tryed to burn a back up. and i hooked my windows drive as master,
my new drive as slave
and old tivo hard drive as sec master
and my cd as slave second.
well..i tryed that and no luck..i could not understand what everyone is taking about, the kernal and the" this and that" ..sorry i need plan english...(put drive as master and type "format". unhook drive and re boot, then place disk in drive and boot the type)...ect,ect,ect,ect, ...sorry that is just the only way i can under stand it. i am not a dumb person by far. i just cant get it other wise
anyways..i got PISSED and said screw it!!! i will play with it tomorow and put my tivo back together. and ..the darn thing powers up and then goes blank screen.....
so someone please, please help me!! i have a new hard drive i want to put it into my tivoi just dont have a clue how to or the tools(software) to do so
