Tivo is offering S2 Lifetime members the opportunity to upgrade to S3 Lifetime for $199. They also say that FOR FREE they will extend the S2 Lifetime for 1 year. Isn't this a backhanded way of saying that after 1 year your S2 Lifetime will no longer work?

A lot of forum users are saying they can upgrade their S3 Lifetime and then sell their S2 lifetime? But I think that the S2 Lifetime will really become an S2 with 1-year of service left NOT a whole lifetime.

Have I read this wrong?

Isn't this a backhanded way of saying that after 1 year your S2 Lifetime will no longer work? Its not backhanded. It is clear as day. Your old S2 will no longer have the lifetime, but they will grant you a one-year service on it so you can still use it for a year.

Exactly... you aren't extending Lifetime one year, you are transfering lifetime to the S3 and getting a 'free' (more like $100) year of service on the old box to make it less than a door stop.

And when the free year expires, the box will revert back to a monthly subscription. It won't just stop working.
