I'm replacing my S2 with the S3 , once it arrives :) -- and it has finally dawned on me that I'm going to have to re-enter all these from scratch. Even if my S2 were hacked with backup/restore that wouldn't help me get the data to the S3. Un-hacked, as far as I can tell I can't even get the lists into hardcopy form except by using <shudder> pen and paper. (My lists are, let us say, rather long.)
But I haven't upgraded before so this is new to me. Looked at online scheduling but it doesn't seem like it would save much time nor deal with the wishlist.
Is there something, anything, I've missed that will speed up my manual export/import??

I don't think it will take that long to set up your lists again. It's probably a good time to reorder your priorities of the shows any way. With the new premieres next week it may be nice to check out some of the upcoming shows as well.

Use a digital camera and take shots of each page of SP's. That's how I did it when I moved from a stand alone S2 to a DVD-R S2.
Or, hook up both to the same tv and just switch back and forth while you rebuild the SP's.

And don't forget to note down which (if any) season passes / auto-record wishlists have padding.
It's pretty annoying to miss the first or last few minutes of a show that you used to know needed padding. (Or for something like Cold Case, that is on after football, miss 45 minutes of show.)

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll use them.
I've had to re-record Eureka two weeks in a row because of Sci Fi running other shows over, so I'm extra aware of padding just now. Missing the first 5 minutes I can deal with, missing the last 5 minutes is very frustrating! At least is't a show that HAS a rebroadcast. grrr.

Yikes. I was really hoping for a more sophisticated approach to backing up (on S2) and restoring (on S3). Not your fault... it's something I'm surprised TiVo hasn't incorporated into TiVo Desktop.
It seems easy. A quick search shows people have made linux modules for hacked boxes. Bummer

The most difficult are for shows like 24 where the first showing is not yet in the guide. You cannot put in a season pass for it. I had that problem switching from Series 1 DTiVo units to Series 2 DTiVo units.
That said, I wouldn't give up either the DTiVos or the Series 3.

You know what would make this easier? Imagine if you could hook up a USB keyboard to your S3!! Wouldn't that be nice!
