CNet is reporting that it has experienced a resolution down-res problem on its analog outputs for many broadcast channels. There are copy protection methods that allow broadcasters to set an analog-down-res flag that reduces the analog resolution to less than full HD. Full HD res is available on the HDMI cable. The problem may indeed be with the broadcasters inadvertanlty setting the analog-down-res flag but it got me wondering...

Would I be able to even tell if my component HD content was down-res'ed. Sure I'd like to think so, but you never know.

Can TiVo offer an HD test pattern for us to confirm?

And would also be nice to see the bit rate of the source stream.

Haven't noticed any problems with the Comcast HD box picture, which is component.

The FCC has mandated no downrezzing on analog. (This was a really uncharacteristic fit of rationality on the FCC's part.)
