I just saw the whole thing about apple's new iTV. That got me thinking... does anyone think that Tivo will ever be able to play movies like iTV sounds like it will? I mean I know that you can transfer video's from your computer back to tivo. But the menu's and stuff look really cool for iTV. What if you could save a bunch of movies on the external harddrive they are proposing and then you could have several movies at your fingertips. With the cool menu's and everything.

has anyone else ever thought of this? Let me know what you think?

I realize that, I don't have a windows media center pc. I think that Tivo does most of those same features. plus I like all that tivo has to offer, but do you think Tivo will ever consider trying to tap into that market?

Theoretically, it could be done with TiVo Desktop. However, the TiVo Desktop interface may be one of the worst UIs that I have ever seen. So for them to add functionality similar to what iTunes does (it pretty much has that functionality when using it with a S2), would probably turn out to be even more of a nightmare than the current software already is.

In fact, because the S3 is much more powerful than the iTV device will be, you could use it to offload media from TiVo Desktop and not require a constant connection to the PC. However, I haven't seen any hints that TiVo is working on rewriting TiVo Desktop.

I see, thanks.... I'm just trying to think about all the equipment that I have and all that I want. How I could utilize all of it, and not be totally out of control :) I guess I'm one of those guys who wants my tivo to do every thing for me, including bath me & feed me :) I just see the similar features that windows media center offers & now iTV will soon offer and think, well how hard would if be for tivo to add the movies and possibly even use it for internet access.

That could prolly be dangerous too though, I mean with all the viruses it could be expossed too.
