On my account, it states that the monthly fee is 12.95/month, but on Tivo.com, it states 19.95/month. Can someone clarify for me? Thanks.

lawilson,
Tivo's monthly fees are still $12.95/mo for the first box, and $6.95/mo for every box after that.
The $19.95/mo price on the Tivo site is for a free Series2, or a Series2 with an extra heavy discount. Basically, you agree to pay $19.95/mo for one year, and you get an extra large discount on the Tivo purchase price in return. After that year is up, you're back to paying the usual $12.95/mo.
Any Tivo you buy from Best Buy, Circuit City, Amazon.com, etc would probably carry a higher purchase price, but the monthly fee would only be $12.95/mo or $6.95/mo if you already have a Tivo.

Hey, thanks for replying so fast bkdtv. I appreciate it. This might actually make a difference now. So if I renew the Tivo subscription I just cancelled at the 12.95/month (or pre-pay), then if I get an S3, my price is only 6.96/mo? If so that might be a bit more attractive. I could then get rid of the cable box and just pay for the cable cards (I'm assuming I need 2). Thanks.

That's correct.
I could then get rid of the cable box and just pay for the cable cards (I'm assuming I need 2). Most providers include a CableCard(s) as part of a digital cable subscription (as an alternative to a digital cable box), so those CableCards may not cost you anything if you hand-in your old set-top box.
You will need two CableCards until the multistream cards are available in ~November. One multistream CableCard does the job of two standard CableCards. When ordering CableCards, be sure to emphasize that both CableCards are for a single TV. Many providers charge for CableCards based on how many TVs you are adding. In other words, two CableCards for one TV may be half the cost of one CableCard for two different TVs. And again, a digital cable subscription includes [whatever you need for] the first TV for free on most providers.

Ok, the math looks good.
Series 2 (currently in bedroom): $12.95/month
Series 3 (front room): $6.95/month
Cable Cards from RCN (front rom): $4 for 2
Subtotal: $23.90/month
Minus 12.95/month for current RCN DVR in front room; total per month (both Tivos & cable cards): $10.95.
As crazy as this sounds, unless I have my math wrong, I'll actually be saving money each month staying with Tivo. It's late; can anyone check this for me? :)

Where do you add in the $800 purchase of the S3 TiVo?

I'm not adding it in. I'm simply basing this particular scenario on the cost of service. Am I accurate? (JUST on service alone)

As for the box, since the box has a hard drive and downloads content, it can be considered computer equipment, especially since it's attached to my HD "Monitor." Since it's near the end of the year, this can be a write-off for me, especially since I work from home, and this equipment can be used for entertaining clients. I checked with my tax guy (his dad used to run the IRS, the guy is a genius), and my TV was a legitimate writeoff as well as my cable bill since my Internet comes thru my cable.

Yes, there are circumstances wherein TiVo is cheaper per month.

I have 1 tivo on lifetime and 2 on msd, so i have 3 tivo's at $13.9 a month for 3 of them, very happy with that. :)

Um, your math is wrong. You can't subtract out the 12.95 for your current RCN DVR, unless you add it in the first place. Get rid of the RCN DVR and this is what you pay:
Series 2 (currently in bedroom): $12.95/month
Series 3 (front room): $6.95/month
Cable Cards from RCN (front rom): $4 for 2
Total: $23.90/month
