This is printed at the Circuit City Spec of the Series 3

*Ethernet cable or compatible USB wireless network adapter and broadband connection required (sold separately).

Go here (http://circuitcity.shoplocal.com/circuitcitycatalog/Default.aspx?action=browsepagedetail&storeid=2396925&rapid=309928&pagenumber=39&listingid=-2094503051&pretailerid=-99827&ref=%2fcircuitcitycatalog%2fDefault.aspx%3faction%3dbrowsepa gesingle%26storeid%3d2396925%26rapid%3d309928%26pagenumber%3 d39) to see for yourself. This could indicated that the Series has no way to use a phone for setup.

think your misreading the ad-

the asterik is after the senstance explaining the broadband features.

the picture linked in the first post of the spec thread:
http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?p=4353426&&#post4353426

clearly shows the phone jack on the thing.

Exclusive TiVo broadband features include remote scheduling of recordings from the web, photo sharing, internet radio and podcasts, Yahoo!® weather and traffic and more.*

it's not on the sne4tence that descibes the DVR functions:
Smart TiVo features find and record shows by title, actor, sports team or keyword

Easier to find in this photo of the rear of the S3. (http://www.megazone.org/Photos/CES2006/TiVo/SMALL/Series3-back-3.JPG) Clearly, there is a jack for a phone line. The S3 will be able to download guide data using it.

Why any high end target consumer of the S3 would want to use the phone line though.

Why any high end target consumer of the S3 would want to use the phone line though.Some people live in areas without and broadband coverage - but they can still get ATSC.

what is also interesting is that it states thru Nov. 2 for the S3 and the S2 DT. wonder if the price will change on Nov. 2? Just doing my part to start some price drop speculation.
