Hey everyone,

Before I begin, I'm really thankful places like this still exist. ;) I sincerely apologize for posting to the wrong spot if this is not right, but I'm looking HERE because it's underground...

Now, to the point... I have a Hughes DirectTV TiVo (gxcebot). It has a network interface (presumably to get updates) which was installed inside. I'm pretty savvy so I really just need an idea of what to do with it. Oh, it also has one of those fixes installed which gives me access to just about every possible switch (yes/no) found in a TiVo.

I don't have DirecTV service (optimum/cablevision) but I do have an HD TV (30" 16:9 Toshiba). Picture on this tv is awesome. Would it be worth it for me to get the service or am I okay with cable? I'm hoping I can still use the TiVo as a PVR. I know it boots up, functions without the dish (after timeout), but I haven't had the chance to try it with a cable service. I will soon be getting a 250GB drive upon which I will be ghosting from the existing 40GB inside. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I am still having great difficulty finding anything to do with using ethernet...

Without TV that model can't do anything but play back already recorded shows from DirecTV.

I'd say get DirecTV or sell this one on Ebay.

BTW - the network card is to allow updates over the Internet instead of via a phone line.
