I own several Gen 1 Directv Tivos that are dying on me. I am hoping that I can remove the drives and then copy the stored programs onto my PC. Does anyone on this forum provide this service or can someone please tell me how I can do this? Or IF I can do this? There are some really smart people in this forum and I gotta' believe someone has already done this!!
thanks!!
Larry.

if it's only the hard drives dying on you, why not just get a replacement hard drive (or even one with an upgraded capacity), and copy the entire contents of the drive over? you can follow the simple directions Here (http://tivo.upgrade-instructions.com/index.php), and by using the search function on this site.

if it's the other hardware in the unit going bad (or already gone bad), there's likely not a way to copy those shows onto your PC unless you already had it set to not encrypt recordings (meaning it would have already had to have been hacked). each unit has its own encryption/decryption algorithm, so you also can't simply move the hard drive from one unit to another, even if it's the same make/model.
