I spent some time yesterday trying to sign a friend up for DirecTV service, and trying to get him the best deal I could. Among the humorous (and blantantly false) things quoted to me by DirecTV CSR's were:

CSR: "DirecTV created High Definition! They started the whole thing! Only DirecTV has true High-Def service. High definition signals need to go from a satellite to a satellite. Cable companies only have 1/4 of true HD signal, because their signal has to go through a cable."

[Me - hangs up because I'm laughing so hard at this dude]

My friend (who had been listening in on the other phone) then jokingly says to me: "How does the high definition signal get from my dish to my TV if it can't go through a cable?"

There were a few other comments made by CSR's that were almost as bad. And all of them complete fabrications and lies. Like the CSR who told me I'd be getting the new HD-DVR and not the "old, obsolete one". I asked her if I could get my local channels in high-def, and she said "yes, with an OTA antenna". OK, so now I'm getting a HR20 that receives OTA, and here in Green Bay Wisconsin, no less? Pardon me if I don't believe a word of it.
