Can Anyone confirm this... (From a DirecTV email today)

"To access DIRECTV HD programming, a five-LNB Multi-Satellite dish, along with an H20 DIRECTV HD Receiver and HD television equipment is required."

I sure hope not.

Here is the entire email.

that's just for the MPEG-4 channels. NFLST is not MPEG-4, though the HR10-250 won't work w/ the Superfan crap.

That is what I am saying. Why would they sell SuperFan to ANYONE that has a HR10-250. SuperFan will do them no good at all.

There is more to SuperFan than HD. You can get HD w/ the HR10 but not all the interactive/multiscreen stuff.

SuperFan is the only way to get the HD games.

The interactive stuff is useless to HD Tivo people, which is part of the reason there was such an uproar last year.

The way the quote is worded the HD games are only available with the 5-LNB dish. I realize the interactive crap will not work. I just got SuperFan fpr the HD games.

You only gave us one line of the email. What is the context? You can get everything but local channels and local RSNs in HD with MPEG2 equipment. All national channels (including the NFL) are in MPEG 2.

I have scheduled HD Superfan games for this Sunday on my HR10-250! You're OK!

The only reason that the e-mail doesn't mention the 3 LNB dish and the HR10 is that they no longer acknowledge the existence of HR10-250 on the website or in any HD related communication to customers. Probably not anywhere except on the phone, and only if you bring it up!

Sunday Ticket HD games are being broadcast in BOTH mpeg2 and mpeg4 this year, so everyone will be able to get HD games. (who has superfan).

Next year they are talking about moving them all to mpeg4 at which point they will be giving me a free HR20 or losing a Sunday Ticket Customer.

Are the other superfan channels, - the Red Zone, Game Mix and Short Cuts - actually in HD? I.e., am I missing something by not having an HR20 (or H20), or can I just watch them on my DirecTV+ DVR? Or can I even get them on that w/o the 5-LNB dish?

They are?

Why would they do that? The newer machines get MPEG2 just fine, right?

You can get Red Zone, Shortcuts and Game Mix with the old dish and recievers. None of them are in HD.

And don't forget for game mix you can change the sound to which ever game you wish. You have to go through the alternative sound icon via the directv channel banner.

Yes, to say that the HR10 won't work with Superfan is a gross overstatement. You will still see the extra channels included with Superfan, it's just that the interactive specific stuff won't work, like selecting a game from the gamemix channel and being able to go there with the click of a button. It also won't support the Fantasy Tracker feature (Although nobody seems to know how that is supposed to work anyway.)

Won't it just change when you change which game is highlighted, like the Kids Mix and Sports Mix channels?

Exactly (and "a" reason why the channel number is overlayed on each screen).

I know for sure they are being broadcast in mpeg2 this year. An CSR on teh HD team told me they were also being broadcast in mpeg4, so take that for what it is worth.

so to clarify

if I have an HR10-250 and I order Sundy Ticket...do I HAVE to get Super fan to see the HD games? (not counting the locally broadcase HD games of course)

second question: what exactly do I get in HD, the NFL network? the Shortcuts?

last question: anyone got any deals on ordering Sunday ticket?

Next year they are talking about moving them all to mpeg4...Anybody remotely familiar with DirecTV's SOP will tell you that they are not "talking about" any such thing. I'm not saying it won't happen, but we won't hear a peep about it from DirecTV until next summer at the earliest.

Sunday Ticket gets you any CBS or Fox games that are being broadcast in HD. For the Monday Night game you will need the regular HD package.

Whether or not we get NFL network games in HD starting in November is up in the air at this point. Any "local" games will be blacked out on Sunday Ticket and must be watched either on your local SD Sat channels, or your OTA channels (unless you get mpeg4 locals of course)

Shortcuts were not in HD last year, I assume that will be the case this year as well.

As far as Deals, I got Superfan for free at the same time they sent me a 2nd HR10 fo free.
