I just got a couple 250G Seagate DB35 drives. The online literature says there is a "DVR toolkit" available to help optimize the drive for different applications:

http://www.seagate.com/docs/pdf/marketing/Seagate_DB35.pdf

Does anyone know what this software does and if there is any reason that I would want to use it before popping the drives into my TiVos? (i.e. cooler operating temps..)

And if so, where can I get a copy? Seagate tech support doesn't know about the software!

Thanks!

You'd have to go in the side door, so to speak, as a DVR developer, to access that software. They likely wouldn't want regular customers to have it.

IE, that piece of marketing literature was designed with developers / manufacturers in mind, not end-users. They are talking about a tool kit which allows access to features and functionality required by those designing DVRs (hence the commend about NEXT generation DVRs) with the hopes of convincing people that these drives might be superior for that particular application.

Regardless, whatever DVR-specific features are claimed by the manufacturer, they will not really apply to the upgrade of your TiVo, since its design wasn't implemented with these features in mind.

If its a quality drive, however, it should still be fine, as most other drives are.
