Just spoke to customer service. They said I will need to replace my 6 month old "DirecTV HR10-250 DirecTV with TiVo" with a new box to get my local channels in HD (I live in Columbus, Ohio). They said that the local HD channels are on a new satellite (119) that the old receiver won't pick up. Doesn't seem very logical to me. What's the real story here?

That is the real story -- if you want HD locals via satellite, you need the new HR20 (non-Tivo). Your only alternative is to use an antenna to get your HD locals over the air (which, by the way, will look better than any other source).

Columbus HD stations will be on either the 99 or the 103 satellite. Besides the new receiver, it will require a 5 LNB dish.
As cheer said, your HR10-250 will receive the Columbus HD stations using an off the air antenna.

Good luck. I'm on the east side of C'bus and it's been rough to get a consistant OTA signal. The DB2 DTV provided picked up 4,6,10 & 28 reasonably well on a calm day but had major problems with multipath (lots of trees) in wind or rain. A Silver Sensor in the house has fewer problems with multipath but has to be aimed differently to pick up 28.

In spite of the hassle, the picture from OTA HD blows away anything in HD I've seen off the sat. I won't give up my Tivo for so called HD locals from DTV.
