View Full Version : Dreaded Searching for signal on input 1 or 2 -- HR10-250..

All,

Have the HR10-250, installed with a Phase III dish, accompanied with a TERK MS58.

Intermiddently, again, I get the dreaded "Searching for Satellite signal on input 1 or 2" when I tune to the HD channels (eg 72-89).

When I check the signal strength, on the 119 bird I get over 90% strength.

On the 110 bird, on transponders 8 & 10, I get 90% plus strength, and 0 on transponder 12.

QUESTION, is there a way to FORCE my HR10-250 to use transponders 8 or 10 on the 110 bird?

I have checked all cables, all is snug. I have checked everything, and all is fine. If I give the HR10-250 a few minutes, sometimes hours, my HD sat channels are ok.

DirecTV, can give no answers. A swap hasn't fixed it.

I'm at a loss.

HELP.

You can't "force" the HR10-250 to use specific transponders. It needs to receiver ALL relevant transponders to get all of the available channels. Each transponder carries several channels as determined by DirecTV, not your DVR.

That said, something is wrong if you're seeing "0" on SatC/110-deg transponder 12. If that's the ONLY transponder you're having issues with, I would suspect a defective (possibly intermittent) problem with the Phase III dish's LNB (the center LNB), or possibly it's internal combiner or multiswitch. Your best bet might be replacing the dish.

First, though, do you have other receivers where you can check SatC transponder 12? That will help rule out a problem with the HR10-250.

I am having this same problem on a new hr 10-250 I set up tonight. Watching MNF on ESPN - the screen goes grey and I lose audio. Unscrew the dish lead, screw it back in - picture comes back. About an hour later, same thing again.

Any thoughts? The two other recievers in the house are unaffected. test channels 490-494 show ok when picture is ok. When I lose picture, sat in shows zero on the test meter.

First thing I'd check is that connector you're unscrewing.

the cable itself or the sat-in connector?

the cable itself or the sat-in connector?

Start with the connector on the cable, easy fix
(if you're familiar with crimping connectors, fairly easy to learn if you aren't)
If you don't have a crimping tool and connectors, any Home Depot or Lowes or similar will carry a pretty good starter set with a compression tool and compression connectors.

If replacing that doesn't fix it, then move on to the connector on the box,
and it's solder connections on the inside.

I had this problem. It was the multiswitch. That's what I'd look at.

An update to this, looks as my multiswitch fried. DTV came out today and replaced it. Glad to have my HDs back. I'll see how it goes, it's only been about 10 hours since the swapout.
