Hello! I have finished the instalation of my new HD TiVo and Philips plasma (42PF9631D)
When I select the 720p or 1080i outputs, I get snow on the screen and sometimes the actual picture will flicker.
480i and 480p formats work fine. I am using only HDMI for connections.
I have a three LBN dish, signal strength is great on all feeds.
Tech support said it's the TV =-P not very helpful.
Someone else mentioned it might be a bad HDMI port on the TiVo, but same connection results fine in lower resolutions.
Any other ideas?
Thanks!
Brad

This does not sound like the typical HDMI failure problem, especially since it's working fine at 480i and 480p. Are you sure you're not missing some other setting on your Plasma to enable 720p and/or 1080i resolution? Do you have another HDMI source you can try with your Plasma (DVD Player perhaps)?

Also, you might want to try using the component cables instead of HDMI and see if that makes a difference, assuming your plasma TV has component inputs.

Component cables work! I can use 720p AND 1080i output when I switch to component cables. So, if I can only see 480p and 480i with HDMI and I can see ALL outputs with component cables, does that suggest possible throughput problems with the HDMI connection? OR maybe the HDMI port still has a problem on the TiVo?
Thanks!

It could easily be a problem with the HDMI card on the HR10-250. As you noted in your post above, there have been problems with them in the past.

You might want to call DTV and explain the problem you're having and what you've done to diagnose it. They can send you another one pretty quick. Mine died completely after I'd had it a couple of days, and they Fed Ex'd me a replacement within two days.

If the replacement does the same thing, it would point to the TV as the problem.

Try another HDMI cable.

For anyone that is interested, the problem was the two HDMI couplers I was using to connect three HDMI cables. This was ideal for my install, 1 HDMI in the wall, connected to two faceplates (couplers) and then 1 HDMI cable on each end to connect the TV to the wall and the TiVo to the wall.
This is no good.
