Enabling TiVo on an HR10-250 without D*

Is it possible to enable a DirecTV HR10-250 to use the regular TiVo service?

With the arrival of the S3, I may have a spare HR10-250, it could be a reasonable OTA only HD TiVo, but the DVR part doesn't work without a D* subscription. Has anyone even thought of doing this? I didn't find anything about this with a search.

You can't get a Tivo account on a Dtivo box.
I've been wanting to do this for years.

Count me as one that would like to do this -- I would be happy just to enable manual recording even without Season Passes, etc.

Originally, I paid , what $299, for lifetime service directly to Tivo? Then D* pulled a fast one and hijacked my relationship with Tivo. Yeah, I know D* can do what ever it wants and change terms on a whim and I can't, but it seems one could make a fairly strong argument to require DirecTV to enable service even without D* programming.
