I moved earlier this year and only recently got around to setting up my surround sound system. I had been running analog audio through the speakers in my big screen tv. Now, I'm getting almost constant audio dropouts when using digital audio. I've replaced the digital audio cable and tried the other 2 digital audio inputs on my a/v receiver which appear to be working fine with my SD-Tivo and DVD player. It's looking like the problem is in the HR10-250. I own my HD10-250 and the warranty has expired. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

not personally, but you might do a search for digital audio, as I do recall there is a thread in here about a few folks who had a problem in some specific circumstances.

What brand/model AV Receiver do you have? I recall there were problems with some Pioneer, Sunfire and Denon AV Receivers. A search here might dig those up.

I've got an Onkyo SR601 and I had no problems with digital audio from the HR10-250 before I moved and I'm not having any problems with my SD Tivo.
I opened up the HR10 only to find that the digitial audio jack and the s-video jack are both enclosed in a metal housing coming up off the motherboard. If there's a bad solder point, I couldn't see it.
I guess I'm either going to have to buy a new HR10 off Ebay and hope D* will activate it as an owned unit, or bite the bullet and get a leased one. I'm not crazy about either option at the moment.

Well, not entirely sure if it was related to my digital audio problem or not, but Sunday night my HR10-250 shut down and popped up the blue screen with the high internal temperature warning. Unplugged the unit and plugged it back in. It restarted, and everything seemed fine. The fan was working. I checked the info screen and the temperature was in the low 50s where it has always been. But, later that night it shut down again with the blue heat screen popping up again. It was late, so I unplugged it and went to bed.
Didn't have time to mess with it last night. Tried several times tonight to get the unit to restart. Never got it to reboot before the blue screen would come up and the unit would shut down. Gave up. Called D*. Got shuffled from customer service to technical support to HD technical support to HD DVR technical support. Explained the situation. I was immediately offered a refurbished HR10-250 leased unit for $19 plus tax with a 2-year commitment. It's supposed to arrive in three days or less. I really expected them to try to switch me to the HR20.
I'm not a big fan of the leasing program in principle, but I didn't like the idea of paying $350-$400 on Ebay and then having to convince D* to activate it as an owned unit. I was one of the early adopters that paid $1K (less a $200 credit from D*). My first unit suffered harddrive failure in less than 4 months. The replacement unit had worked flawlessly up until now...almost 2 years.
Paying a little over $21 with tax for a leased unit didn't seem that bad, but I would have thought twice about paying $399 for the privilege of leasing an HD DVR. I thought about switching to Charter Cable, but there's a long waiting list for the Moxi here in St. Louis and Charter Cable, is well, Charter Cable. Thought about E* but I didn't want to pay several hundred dollars to lease their HD DVR and local installers also seem to have a waiting list for it.
I just hope I get a decent refurbed HR10-250.
