As great as the video is on this BUD, I'm beginning to hate it because I can't get some simple questions answered.

I am willing and able to build a "black box" that will translate serial channel number information into IR codes that will move and tune the Motorola 4DTV. By using a robust List, I can get most of what I have access to into the guide.

I just need to know a little about the serial port. Hanging a laptop on it and using LG Satelite choice, I can see something coming across the line, but it looks to garbage, not ASCII.

Has anyone watched what comes out this port this way, and if so, what baud rate/settings did you use.

I would really appreciate any feedback in this area- Thanks

Try 9600 8n1.

I've tried nearly every combination baud rate, parity, and stop bits. I'm wondering if the serial port is talking something other than ascii..

Has anyone out there ever tried seeing what's coming accross the serial remote line?

Maybe www.dvrblackbox.com could help or have something really for the need?

You could do it yourself that's for sure, but why? It's Done, the channel mapping is done can be field updated there will be to many channel changes between C-Band, Directv, Dishnet, MetaConnect channel guides to allow you to keep up with all if it. My plan to use this theory as more people are using DVRBB the channel bases will only improve for all users, because as someone may know that HBO moved on Directv as far as the channel # is and doesn't line up anymore, someone else may know that C-Span2 moved because that user is a news junkie.
