View Full Version : Dual Tuner Tivo - Switching Tuners Not Working

This is a very annoying issue.
I'm trying to get my "LiveTv" button to change tuners on my new DT Tivo. When I press the "LiveTV" button I only get the channel guide popping up and the Tivo remains on the original tuner.
The only way to switch tuners is to push the directional to the right to pull up the Info bar, hit down to select the tuner swap option and then hit enter.
Mildly annoying.
Anyone have an idea WTF is going on? The tivo itself tells me I should be able to switch tuners using the "LiveTV" button as a shortcut but its not working.

reboot and if that doesn't make a difference do a power reset (unplug the box for at least 30 seconds then plug it back in).

Bah must be a software bug, worked fine until I went to the Now playing list, left there and now its doing the same thing.

Going to Tivo Central can help. Press the Tivo button to go to Tivo Central then press the Live Tv button and press it again to change tuners.

Yah it's weird tuner swap works fine until I go to the now playing list then once I do the LiveTv button only brings up the guide. I have a weakness drive coming Tuesday so hopefully that will fix whatever the heck is wrong.
Must be a software bug I'm also going to check for an update.

Down arrow works better for tuner swap anyway. (At least that's what I have been using for the last 5 years - dunno if it works on these new DT boxes.)
Are you using a different remote than the one that came with your new TiVo?

That method doesn't work on with the DT.

The problem is the remote you are using is sending the old command for LiveTv. Which remote is it?

A reboot or reset always creates this problem for my HR10-250.
Just bring up the menu and put the unit into standby, then bring unit out of standby and you are back to normal operation.

I'm using a peanut remote and a Harmony 680 with the most recent firmware. I'm not sure that is the case as it works immediately after reset but as soon as I go into the Now Playing list it stops working.
Once I get some time today I'll play with it and see if there is a small software upgrade or something. Othewise I might have to call Tivo and see if my box is defective.

If you are using a remote that has old codes (like your Harmony) then you are telling the TiVo to behave as if you have an old remote (which you do.) Either use the included remote, or update the codes in your Harmony. Things are working as designed.

This is exactly the problem. Your remote is sending an old S1 command. Going to Now Playing resets the TiVo so the next time it gets the LiveTV command it will determine which type of remote you are using.

I'm not sure that is the case as the remote that came with the unit has the exact same effect.
Its odd that it works only after reset and once I get into the Tivo menu, even if I don't do anything, and then go to live tv it then will not work.
I'm actually on the phone with tivo now trying to get it resolved.

Wow, ok I think I got it although I'm not sure how.
Its amazing how something as little as an extra 2 button pushes can drive me nuts. Regardless I disconnected the power from the Tivo, opened the case and removed the IDE cable from the Hard Drive. I was only doing this because I have another drive I'm going to upgrade it with so I wanted to check it out and see how easy it was and all that.
I reconnected everything after inspecting the insides, powered up and now the damn thing is working.
It wasn't the power cycle because I had done that a few times already. I can't imagine the IDE cable was loose because I doubt it would have such a minimal impact on the system, everything else worked.
For whatever reason its now perfectly working and I've been using my Harmony and the included remote with no issues.
