Help! I love my Tivo and I think I may lose the ability to use it. I know this is long, but I got no help from tech support when I called.

I have an old stand alone, Sony SVR-2000 unit with a sony RMT- v303 remote.
I have also purchase a LIFETIME sub so I would like this to work without purchasing a new unit please. Plus, it just worked a couple of weeks ago before I moved. The only difference is the cable company & box.

Here's the issue:
We used to run our Tivo unit with a Comcast Digital cable box and it worked fine. Then, we moved and now our unit is connected to a Direct TV box (which I am assuming is the lastest version since we just got it). The connections in the back are all correct, but my Tivo remote has completely lost the ability to control the Tivo unit. I tried to follow the directions in the book for teaching my remote and was only able to get it to learn how to change the channel up and even then it was doing it through the direct tv box. I also followed the instructions to reset the tivo remote back to factory settings and that didn't help either.

The big problem is also that Tivo is not communicating with the TV at all. I can't get it to show the Tivo central screen, welcome screen, or anything Tivo related. I even disconnected the Direct TV box and connected the TV right to Tivo and could not get anything out of my Tivo box.

Since it just worked before I left I tend to think that it is not a problem with my Tivo box, but since it can't communicate with the TV it might be.

Please help! I love my tivo and am not in a financial position to get new equipment and pay the fees again. Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks a bunch!

You need to repeat the Tivo's "Guided Setup" process and tell it about your DirecTV Receiver and how it's connected.

I'm a little concerned about the fact the TiVo isn't feeding anything into the TV at all.

It should still display SOMETHING, even if not set up to work with the satellite source yet.

How was the TiVo set up to work with the TV before? Was it feeding in thru the A/V inputs, or thru the antenna cable?

Is it set up that way now?

Maybe the TV's not getting anything because things aren't set the same way as before?

I would LOVE to run guided setup, but there is no way for that to happen since I can't get any TIVO info to come up on screen.

As far as how it was/is hooked up: It used to be hooked up through cable and it is now hooked up through cable as well. We have double checked all of the connections and they are all correct. Had a very frustrating call with Sony TIVO who just told us to send the box in to get it fixed-but I maintain that the box is just fine but there is something else missing.

is there some kind of activation that needs to happen via Direct TV?

This is so frustrating!
Thanks for any help.

If you cannot see any tivo menus at all, then either you have it set up with the TV incorrectly, or the TV is not set to the appropriate input. It has nothing to do with cable vs. satellite. It's completely a setup issue.

When you said "I even disconnected the Direct TV box and connected the TV right to Tivo and could not get anything out of my Tivo box," that leads me to believe that you really need to go back and check your connections. The tivo output is *always* connected directly to the TV input; having to remove the sat box to make this correct connection tells me that your setup is wrong. You also need to make sure that if the tivo is connected to (for instance) your TV's input #1, that you tune the TV to input #1.

If your TiVo information screen is not appearing only work with two things: The TiVo and your TV until this is working. The TiVo can output its video signal by the RCA connector, the SVGA or the cable out. Have you tired all three? Do you know which one was hooked up before?

I also followed the instructions to reset the tivo remote back to factory settings and that didn't help either. Hmm. I assume you've tried to obvious like new batteries.

Was your TiVo remote programmed to control your TV as well? Is that part working?
What I'm aiming at is the possibility that the remote just died during the move. If you have a digital video camera you might be able to use it to see if the remote is actually emitting IR when the buttons are pressed.

If the receiving light comes on when first plugged in but it turns off a few minutes later, make sure the unit isn't booting up to Standby. Try pressing the Power button on the top right of the remote to see if the Receiving light comes back on.

If the receiving light is not on when you switch inputs, you aren't likely to see video.
