View Full Version : Dual Tuner will only change channels on one of the tuners

I have a dual tuner TiVo box and I have the following problem. I want to switch back and forth between two channels, one on each tuner, as I'm interested in both programs. I want to do this because switching tuners is fast and channel changing is slow. Both channels are for basic cable so that isn't the problem (dual tuners can show 2 basic, 1 basic and one box cable, but not 2 box cable and by box cable I mean the channels you pay extra for that need a box). So I'll put it on one of the channels, switch to the other tuner and try to change it to the other channel I want to watch and instead of switching that one, it will switch the other. I've even tried recording the one channel and then trying to switch the other tuner but it tells me I first have to stop the recording. Does anyone know the solution to this problem?

Can you record two shows at once? Try looking at the live TV guide, and pick any show to record, on any channel, IN THE CURRENT TIME SLOT. It will begin recording right then and there on that channel. Then, pick another show from the guide in the SAME TIMESLOT on another channel. Hit Record and tell the tuner to record that show. See if both shows will record at the same time.
ALSO, make sure that you are using the LIVE TV button to switch between tuners.

Actually right after I posted this, I figured out what was wrong. I feel like a complete idiot but thought that maybe there are others out there that could benefit from an explanation. On the dual tuner remote there is a little switch labeled DVR 1 or 2. If you toggle from one to the other, you can control which tuner you change the channel for. Couldn't be simpler, I feel quite foolish.

Actually, that switch is for controlling 2 TiVo boxes, and has nothing to do with controlling the tuners on a DT...
Either way, if you got it working, thats great news.
Move along, nothing to see here folks.

the 'live tv' button switches the box to the alternate tuner. try this:
1. pause the live tv
2. press the 'live tv button.
3. change the channel.
4. press the 'live tv button again.
you should be back at the paused point on the original tuner.

Thanks but that thread wasn't the same problem. Luckily, I'm not having that problem.

I'm not sure why I thought the toggle worked. It seemed like it did but when I checked it again, it didn't. So I tried your solution about pausing one tuner and switching the other and that didn't work either! What happened was that the TiVo unpaused the paused tuner and changed it instead of the tuner I was watching and trying to change. So now what?

I finally called TiVo support and the solution involved my channel lineup. For my channels between 2-99, I had both box and cbl checked (thought I needed to). The agent had me uncheck cbl for all those channels. Problem solved.
