What are the real cons..

such as I have 2 DTiVos (one with additional drive added) and an R-15.
Anyone have any experience with the FIOS DVRs?

Cons? Well, the equipment rental is steeper -- $13 a month per DVR, or $20 for the multiroom unit. And, they're not Tivos. But there's no upfront cost.

Other than that, most of the cons would probably revolve around missing your favorite channels (there are more channels on Fios, but not everything on DirecTV is on Fios), or bad PQ (overall Fios PQ is said to be better than DirecTV, but apparently it varies, and not all channels may be better), or not being able to hack the DVR to extract programs (if you do that). But whether any of those would apply, only you can judge.

Many of us here are looking at using the Series 3 with Fios. The fees work out the same for two S3's or two Fios DVRs; S3's are cheaper if you get more than two. But that doesn't count the upfront cost. Of course you can use an S2 as well.

Personally, although I'd been looking forward both to Fios TV and the S3 all year, I'm increasingly disenchanted with both. They're looking to be more expensive than I'd anticipated, and less featureful. But neither is quite here yet, so I can't truly evaluate them. (Fios TV was supposed to sart here in late August, but they've missed that.)
