Can that also mean "Save to DVD", or will it only work to VCR's?

It will work to any device (DVD recorder, PC) that can handle the output from the Tivo (coax or RCA).
The are only two differences between "Save to VCR" and just playing something on the Tivo and hitting record on the recording device:
- "Save to VCR" includes a nice approx. 10 seconds intro page that displays what is being recorded
- Some VCRs (of the same manufacturer as the Tivo, mine is a Series 1 Sony) can be automatically start and stop recording.

I think the "Save to VCR" mode also locks out most remote commands so you don't accidentally stop the playback while it's recording to your VCR or DVD Recorder.

On the S1s, it pops up a small dialog asking if you are sure ytou want to navigate away from it. I assume the S2s are same and the DTivos.

The TiVo will look around the room and make sure there's a VCR hooked up before it continues.

Only the first gen S1's do that Stanley. The S2's are too busy being slow and wondering why they have so much extra junk in their menus. ;)
