I have heard both ways from alot of people that images off hard drives in the Tivo units and receiver specific and not receiver specific.
I am going to be upgrading an SD-DVR40. My question is can I use an backup image from an HDVR2? If not I'll just back up the SD-DVR40 image, but I would like to save some time.

They are both series 2 DTivos and therefore use the exact same images. The only caveat is that your SD-DVR40 will think it's an HDVR2 when you check the system information screen. Other than that, they are identical.

Prior to OS version 3.x for S2 DTivos, the non-RID models (HDVR2) and RID models (SD-DVR40) had different versions of the Tivo software. With the release of 3.X and newer, all S2 DTivos now use the exact same software.

With the release of 3.X and newer, all S2 DTivos now use the exact same software. That would be the 6.x and not 3.x.

I have 2 SD-DVR40s running HDVR2 software. Swapped one of the drives to a Philips DSR7000, and it worked great there too.

Well there is some kind of problem. I have 2 SD-DVR40s and I took an image from one and used it on the other and now it says there is a hardware error and I can't record programs till I fix it. Unfortunately, I don't have the original image for it...so now what do I do?

I have an HR10-250 and had the HDMI card go bad last night. I have a spare HR10-250 that the HD went bad in this past June and DTV said I could dispose of it so I just kept it incase I ever needed parts.

I decided to try and swap HDMI cards. Well I tried that and the connecter on the motherboard is different! The one I bought when they where very first released is the one with HDMI that went bad. The newer Refurb that has a good HDMI card but a bad hard drive.

Sooo I decided to move the Drives from that TiVo to the other. I have 2 drives in there a 250 and 300 gig. Well now with the drives in the other TiVo I get that hardware error and can't get to any of my shows. Is there any way to fix this without doing clear and delete? I have a few hundred tv shows on there yet to watch =(

Only if you hacked it before hand.
