Last week the HD on my Tivo R10 went south, I called DTV and they replaced it with their DTV DVR+ but in MHO this is not a suitable replacement. I am used to watching two channels at the same time without losing time on either one and I can't do that on this DVR that they sent me. After calling them to complain of the differences in the units I was left with a "take it or not" from their tech support.
From what I have read about the the Tivo 2 is that it won't do that either. Am I correct with that info and what would be an acceptable solution for my problem. Should I replace the HDD on my Tivo R-10 and send the DTV unit back, get a Series 2 Tivo, or just accept my losses with my short attention span and keep the DTV+ unit.
I am new to this forum and not very knowledgeable about this info, any advice that you can offer will be appreciated.

Get another R10 or a DTiVo from somewhere else - you don't have to get it from DirecTV. It is true that a standalone TiVo won't give you what you want.

This forum talks about the R15, which you found out is not a TiVo.

I would suggest that you go to one of the forum sponsors shown at the top of this page and get a replacement hard drive.

Any other earlier version DirecTV DVR does allow dual buffers.

A work around for the R15s lack of dual buffers is to record both tuners and then switch between the playback of them.
