View Full Version : 2-yr Old Ppv???

A PPV (for $.99) just showed up on my bill. I searched all four of my receivers (because I don't order PPV) and found one had "The Village" ordered 02/25/2005. Yes, 2005, a year and a half ago.
I called Direct TV. They asked if that receiver is plugged into a phone line and I told them NO. Recently when I got my HD Receiver, it took priority and once a month I drag a long cord down the hall and update my bedroom receiver.
To make a long story short, I told her I cannot verify or remember whether or not I ordered a movie that long ago. You know, she would NOT take it off my bill and said it could THAT long to catch up to billing???
I'm perplexed. I don't even know what to say. It's not the $.99, it's the principle and how does that happen? Anyone else have an experience like this? What to do?

By the way in case I didn't make it clear, THAT receiver WAS plugged in continuously until recently. Now I just update it once a month. I cannot understand Direct TV's position on this $.99.

The problem is that in order to order ppv via remote, the receiver should be plugged in.
At .99, you must ask yourself How much effort an I going to put into this. There is a very good chance that somebody ordered it by mistake or on purpose. As you stated it was a charge for 2005, most companies allow for disputes up to 45 days after a charge is made or appears on your bill.
I can't see you getting much of an "ear" on this forum over .99!!
And that is my .02 cents!

BTW, plugging in the phone line and forcing a call WILL NOT update DirecTVs PPV database. That is done with a separate call to DirecTV that you have no control over.

I agree with Cowboys. We are not going to get all excited over a .99 charge that you may well have incurred in the first place
Assuming that you would have watched a movie like the Village, and do buy PPV's, if it were me, I would assume they were right and send in the buck.
Case closed.

I ordered the same movie back then for $.99 and wish I had my money back. ;)
There 2 different calls a receiver makes. One to TiVo and one to DTV to report PPVs and the physical location of the receiver. The call to DTV is the one that reports ppvs. But DTV only makes each box call home once a month on a specific day. If you want your receiver to call DTV and not TiVo, then run a system test thru the menus and after it checks the signal, phone, etc, it will call DTV back within 24 hours and clear out old PPV info. A friend of mine unplugged the phone to his DTV box and didnt realize it for quite some time. When he reconnected it, he had over $40 in 2 year old ppvs showing on his bill.
He was pretty upset, but come on, I'd rather pay $5 to watch that awful movie again than spend time on the phone with a D* rep arguing over 99 cents.

are you sure it's once a month for PPV calls? I recall getting locked out for not phoning home and just let it overnight plugged in and it was fine and able to order the next day.
I'd more assume it's 1x a day that dtv calls in or attempts to.

I always thought it called in more often too. Maybe if you havent ordered any PPV's, it calls in once a month just to verify that you have a phone line connected but if you have ordered some PPV's it calls in that night.

Or maybe it calls once an month and if it can't get through, it then tried every day after that?

If its on there it must have come from one of your receivers. Its only ".99 cents" and I would just pay it. You already spent more than that in just your time calling them and posting about it here.

Yeah if its on the receiver someone ordered it. If it just showed up on the bill and none of the receivers then I would say you have a legit argument. Since its on the receiver though there isn't much you can really due. Just be glad you didn't get wacked for like 2 years worth of PPV charges all at once. I have heard of that happening where somehow people are able to order without the phone line on day they plug it in and blamo hey get hit all at once for the charges.

.... I cannot understand Direct TV's position on this $.99.Lemme try to explain their position to ya. You apparently oredered this movie from them on 02/25/05 and at that time agreed by pushing some buttons on your remote that you would pay them $.99 for it. Well, now they want the $.99. It's not like they are trying to bill you for something that you never ordered.
Sure the bill is "way late", but consider yourself fortunate that you got to leave that $.99 in your money market earning interese for all that time. ;)

When ever you order a ppv its ordered to your access card and then the receiver makes a call back to directv to download it it could have been ordered back in 2000 or 1999 it will still be there until it is downloaded to your account
