I know that I can get audio podcasts downloaded onto my TiVo, but has anyone had any success with any video podcasts?

Sure,
I get the Morning Becomes Eclectic video podcast and it works well. It is not fast forwardable like most TV shows are, but I suspect that is due to the way it wast authored. If I hit fast forward it jumps all the way to the end. Other video podcasts may behave differently.

What format/codec do you download your video podcasts in?

I am not sure, I let iTunes handle it. The next time I update, not during work hours, I will see if I can tell.

so you use iTunes to download the podcast and move it to the TiVo? How would one do that?

I'm sorry, I wasn't paying enough attention. I thought you were asking about the video iPod. I put Shows from my TiVo on it and use iTunes to put podcasts on it.
Sorry for not answering your real question.
You can use the podcaster HME application in your TiVo's Music, Photos Products and More menu, but those are not video podcasts. To get Video on the TV you wuold need to download the podcast as normally done and then use a tool to convert it to MPEG-2 with the very specific format settings the TiVo requires. You can then transfer the Video to the TiVo from the computer. I think videora will do it, but check the other threads here for tools that support goback. Anything that will convert the typical MP4 podcast to the right kind of MPEG-2 should work fine.
Please forgive the lapse.

I download a couple video podcasts and use WinAVI to convert it to feed to my TiVo
Under the mpeg2 settings:
Audio sample rate 48000
Audio bitrate 224000
I use Constant Video Quality set to Medium (but any of those settings should work)
Videora only seems to work on .avi files

Videora iPod Converter also seems to work on (DRM-less) MPEG files. Not sure why you'd run Videora Tivo Converter on MPEG files, but it might work with those as well, perhaps to bring them into compliance. I suspect it would. Anyway, confirm that Videora (neither one) doesn't support .mp4 files of the sort used for Video Podcasts...

What's available for the Mac that would do this?
I have an education podcast video that I'd like to play on the TV.
