Yeah I know we should get the dual tuner dvr and such, but we may or may not in our main room, but at the very least we are keeping the regular series 2 running in the other rooms.

So does it interact w/ the directv box just like a cable box, just w/ the IR blaster?

And can you do 2 tuners w/o a dvr on directv? and if so, can you have the tivo just do one, and you can do the other w/o a dvr?

DirecTV receivers work well with a standalone TiVo. Check the compatibilty thread for info.

The only way to do dual tuners without using a DirecTV DVR is to use two separate receivers.

Use one for the TiVo and the other for live (yuck) TV.

Ok, so it basically just functions as a regular cable box in terms of the tivo.
