Hi There!

[Used to be a frequent visitor to this forum but not been here a while]

I've had a DSR6000 (series 1) DirecTivo receiver for almost 5 years. Over the past week, I've been getting notices from the receiver that it is running to hot and it is shutting its self down as a safety measure and that I should unplug it. Not really sure why this is occuring now, perhaps the internal fan has died. Nothing has changed in my location and setup in over a year; but now I get this message daily.

Anyway as it turns out I bought it at CC and purchased the extended warranty which makes this unit under warranty! When I called CC they said that as of March '06, CC is no longer providing service w/DTV and that they will refund my original purchase price ($99) to buy the replacement the R15 at a Circuit City store.

Since I have been 'out of the loop' as far all the new DTV receivers are concerned (and it's relationship vis a vis Tivo) I didn't realize that this unit was DTV's own DVR service, not TiVo. That's unacceptable to me. Plus I currently am grandfathered in the TiVo lifetime subscription. The other thing that bothers me (and admitedly I don't know much about it) is that aside from the purchase price, there is some language regarding monthly lease payment!?! P-shaw!

Any suggestions how to proceed? I definetly want a TiVo unit, no subsititions.

Thanks,
Glenn

After five years there is probably a build up of dust inside blocking some airflow. Take the top off and clean it out and check to make sure the fan is working properly.

Also, it's easy to replace the internal fan. Weaknees sells replacement fans with do-it-yourself instructions.
