View Full Version : Actors not in DTiVo wishlist search

In the past, I've always been able to find any actor I was searching for by using their name under Actor Wishlist, even some very obscure actors. Last night I came across a name the TiVo actor list had no record of:
Kristen Bell. Yeah, Veronica Mars wasn't in there.
I can't see any reason why she wouldn't be listed in the actor's list when I run a search. Would this be something I'd have to take up with TiVo directly, or should I go to DirecTV, or is it just my receiver? (R10 and HR10-250, BTW. She didn't show up on either receiver)
The only work-around I can think of is to put her name in as a keyword. But that's a bit cumbersome.

You should be able to just keep going and spelling it out completely (Never mind the list that pops up to the right). I've done this before.
As far as taking it up with Tivo, we don't really exist as far as Tivo is concerned lol

I think it only searches actors that show up in programs in the guide,
either current, recent or forthcoming.
Since UPN 24 dropped UPN like a hot rock back in June,
there aren't any Veronica Mars in the guide so Bell, Kristen isn't showing up either.
It's been 2-3 months since we in Salt Lake could watch Veronica.
Best bet is to setup a wishlist for Veronica Mars,
then once the guide starts showing CW programming, change it to a Season Pass.

I think the actor database is retained for about 30 days. If an actor has not appeared in the guide data stream for the last 30 days it will not be in the actors wishlist.

Yeah, I've had it find an actor I'm looking for, but not find anything showing with them in it.

I have an Actor Wishlist for Kristen Bell and she shows up fine for me (as of last night), so it must have something to do with the fact that VM isn't playing in your area currently. Weird.
But she was on The Tonight Show about 2-3 weeks ago (to promote Pulse), so she should still be showing up min the Actor list, if that 30-day rule is true.

Talk show appearances don't count, because the guests' names appear only in the show description, not in the "Actors" field of the guide data. (That's why I don't have any Actor wishlists, just Keyword wishlists.)

The show Punk'd came up, and her name is listed in the description. So to the OP, she really is an actor, and like it was said, they have to be appearing in something recent and on the channels you receive, and Trainman, you've always been right before, so maybe they've changed the search features since you last tried using an actor WL.

Use keyword WL's if you want a search to find every instance.

Does the new Directv R15 & HR20 receivers allow searching by actors?

BTW, to find out all the actors listed on a show... Go to the program description screen where you have the option to "Record this showing" and hit the info button. The info on that screen is used by the DirecTiVo to build it's databases.

Now I'm annoyed I spent all that time entering all those names letter-by-letter for keyword wishlists.
(I swear, it used to not work unless they were in the "actors" list in the guide data -- but that was probably back on Version 2.0 of the software. :D )

All I know is that my Actor wishlist for KB alerted me to her recent appearances on The Tonight Show and Live with Regis and Kelly.
I don't know when TiVo "counts" talk show appearances or not, but I'm not aware of ever missing a KB television appearance by using the Actor wishlist, so it works pretty well for me.
