maybe someday TiVo will pay me a subscription rate to use their DVR :)

Isn't that essentially what AOL has now done with their service?
It would be very nice to see ad revenue be able to help offset potential rises in the service fee or drive a reduction to it.
But given that Product Watch seems to have died on the vine so soon after launch doesn't give me much hope.
I just wish the networks would understand that I really need a Thumbs Up in their commercials or I'm not likely to find/try new shows. :)

It would be very nice to see ad revenue be able to help offset potential rises in the service fee or drive a reduction to it.A reduction seems unlikely - ad revenue would have to increase many fold to manage that, and first they need sustained profitability - but note that rates haven't increased since 2002 (IIRC, that's when it went from $9.95 to $12.95), so they've been static for a while. (I know someone is going to claim dropping lifetime is the same as a rate increase. I disagree.)

Actually with MSD the increase from $9.95 to $12.95 became pretty much a wash for people with two TiVos (i.e. $12.95 + $6.95 vs $9.95 x 2) and actually a better deal for those with more then two. So if you look at it from that angle the monthly fees have actually gone down already. At least for the loyal users. :)

This represents some nice progress in the area. I was also very impressed that ad revs increased (doubled?) per sub this qtr, despite TiVo's prediction it would fall. (or was that only YOY?) Forget it, it was YOY.
The potential of several hundred thousand more Cox units towards the end of 2007 is also the kind of thing that helps move the ad business along.
