Aside from the usual software hacks and HDD upgrades....
Does anyone have and photos/links/info on any custom TiVo boxes? TiVo units in custom cases, modified cases, painted cases, PC cases, custom lighting....ANYTHING?
I have a decent background in Xbox case modding....so you can see the basis of my question here...

this has been asked before. Surprisingly no one has seemed to do a mod yet.

I saw a guy stick the guts of a S1 TiVo in a clear lexan case once. However that was years ago, and I've yet to see anyone try anything like that since.
Those sorts of mods tend to lend themselves to gamers. Which means they're mostly done on game consoles and gaming PCs. Most TiVo users just want to watch TV, they don't want lights and bright paint jobs distracting their eye. :)

I remember seeing pictures of a TiVo someone modded with a removable IDE drive cage in the side, so they could easily pull the hard disk (presumable for further modding or items we can't discuss here)

I have seen that mod. It is on Llama.com.
Well, looks to me like I need to find myself a used S2 and get started.
Craigslist here I come!

I saw someone else on this forum claiming to have put the S1 Philips guts in a S1 Sony case.

That's easily done. The Philips and Sony S1 units were identical internally. The only difference was the Sony had a silver case, with a different face plate, and slightly modified software.

I'm not saying it isn't easily done. The OP was asking for "ANYTHING" :)

I have a nice sewing stool here, a box a hair under 1'x1'x2', with a hinged lid and four legs, which sits about 6" off the floor on legs, has a wood grain vinyl covering, padded top, and a little starburst logo on the front. I am sure I could put both an Xbox and a TiVo in there, if I were allowed.

Good golly.....neat mod, but the fact that his TiVo needed a removable harddrive is nuts.....shouldn't have to remove the hard drive that many times.

I built one of my S2 Dtivos into a custom rackmount case. No big deal really.
I also have a series 2 that was refaced with a black Philips series 1 front. I posted how-to pics a long time back on this forum.

If given the choice, I would pay $50 more for S2 functionality in a S1 case. S2 case is too flimsy and too noisy.

Moving significant volumes of data over the serial port would have been really annoying. (But I might be remembering wrong)

Trying to remember how long I have had my turbonet in my S1....I want to say it was '01 or so, but I am not 100% on that one.
