I'm going to try my darndest to watch it when I get home tonight.
I'm thinking it might be a bit dissapointing,
since the last two were very much "season finale" material, and hard to top.

Wow, good episode. I liked this season finale much better than last year's. The ground zero scene was very moving.
And a big cliffhanger. I guess we can assume that Tommy at least will live?

OK finale. I thought it would be a little better.
Does anyone know what song that was playing in the final scene?

My Tivo is set to record all new (first run) episodes of Rescue Me on a Season Pass. I checked the TO-DO List and it said it did not record because this episode had been previously recorded within the last 28 days. How? It's the first time it was ever on TV! I have more than enough available space. The show aired twice in one night and there were no other show conflicts.

Overall I thought it was pretty weak but the ending saved it. Even though we can all assume Tommy lives I still liked how it all went down. I actually thought she was going to kill him by purposely burning the house down and was surprised when it was accidental.
I also though we weren't going to find out till next year what Tommy did with his papers. That would have been a good thing to leave hanging.

I also thought it was weak. Except for the 9-11 tribute it was blah.

Well, that was a quick $1 mil up in flames.
In the previews for this episode, wasn't there a scene with Janet asking Tommy to come back and live with her and the kids? I don't remember seeing that last night.

That scene was there, except she wanted to move in with tommy, not the other way around. I thought this episode was much, much better than last week's. I enjoyed it through and through.
I laughed quite a lot at the dock scene.

They way I remember it is Janet asking Tommy if she and the kids could move in with him.
Wow, Tasunder, two answers at the same time.

Same thing happened to me, don't know why. I was watching the end of Rockstar Supernova and then went ot ESPN to see some baseball scores when I noticed nothing was being recorded. Luckily it was only 5 minutes in so I didn't miss much (and then I watched the first 5 minutes when it was repeated right afterwards.
Weird Tivo glitch, my first one.

Wow, good episode. I liked this season finale much better than last year's. The ground zero scene was very moving.
It seemed more like they wedged it into the episode because they wanted to do something for the 5th anniversary; while they fit in the "how did we get here" part well, the speeches seemed out of place and forced, like they were specifically talking to the audience. It would've been better served if they'd just made a somewhat out-of-character commercial and aired it during the episode.

Ground zero looked a lot better than when I was there a year ago. Or maybe they were just in a different section than I was able to get access to. It was really dusty and ugly when I went, and it had an incredibly lame display in front of the fence. I was extremely disappointed.

I had it padded by 2 minutes and it still wasn't enough. My recording ended after Sheila talked to 911 and with Tommy still on the couch.
Did I miss anything important after that?

No, just the neighbor kids who came out to roast marshmallows and watch the fire.

Do I need spoiler tags?
I think not, since the whole thread is spoilers.
Tommy woke up, stumbled around and fell down the stairs, got up, stumbled around a little more, cough cough, and collapsed on the ground,
Sheila looked like she was going to drive off, changed her mind and went back into the house and tried to drag Tommy to the door, cough cough, collapsed on the ground next to him.
Cut to outide the house with neighbors looking on, couple of explosions and windows blowing out, credits.

I agree with those that say generally disappointing like last week. I have loved this season but just like Deadwood the last show(s) were a bit disappointing. I really did not like the ending though it was dramtic, much to cliche for my tastes.

There were quite a few things I really liked about the episode:
-The dream/ghosts sequence the show started with.
-The bathroom interruptions, especially Katy's (What's sperm?...) which I found laugh out loud fall on the floor funny.
-Franco being quizzed by the brother, who apparently memorized the manual. I thought Franco was going to have him take the test.
However, I basically agree with dswallow, I thought the memorial scene started powerful, but then turned into a commercial followed by a forced episode wrap-up.
The ending I have mixed feelings about. The idea I kind of liked, especailly since there's some great irony in the premise. But, for Sheila and Tommy to both act like total morons during the fire bothered me. Sheila, a firefighter's wife: Can't use an extinguisher? Doesn't think to call 911 immediately, and attempts to run back into the fire. Tommy, legendary firefighter: runs around the house blind, in an attepmt to find someone while having a complete lack of situational awareness. Isn't there some sort of "when all else fails, save yourself" mode for firefighters?

I don't think they were at Ground Zero. They were at a firehouse that lost a lot of guys. They specifically said something about how they have their memorial and there isn't one yet for the civilians.
I thought as a finale it was a little slow, until the end. It did wrap up all the "firehouse breaking up" issues (except the Chief), but I liked the two previous episodes better.

It sure looked like Ground Zero ... at the very end the camera panned up and you could see the footprint of the towers behind the wall to their left.

OK finale. I thought it would be a little better.

The One I Love by David Gray (I hear it on Sirius 18 a lot)
THE ONE I LOVE
Gonna close my eyes
Girl and watch you go
Running through this life darling
Like a field of snow
As the tracer glides
In its graceful arc
Send a little prayer out to ya
‘cross the falling dark
Tell the repo man
And the stars above
That you’re the one I love
yeah
Perfect summers night
Not a wind that breathes
Just the bullets whispering gentle
‘mongst the new green leaves
There’s things I might have said
Only wish I could
Now I'm leaking life faster
Than I'm leaking blood
Tell the repo man
And the stars above
That you’re the one I love
You’re the one I love
The one I love
yehee (x2)
Don’t see Elysium
Don’t see no fiery hell
Just the lights up bright baby
In the bay hotel
Next wave coming in
Like an ocean roar
Won’t you take my hand darling
On that old dancefloor
We can twist and shout
Do the turtle dove
And you’re the one I love
You’re the one I love
The one I love
yehee(x2)

It was ground zero, you can even see the ramp up and out that they used to empty the site of the debris.

Yeah, I know, it's a fair point. I guess part of my thinking is that he would "shake it off" due to it being a situation he's intimately familiar with.
Along those lines, exactly how psycho is Sheila? Does anybody else think her first intention was to drive off and leave Tommy to burn?

It was def Ground Zero in all it's current glory. I'm down there all the time. As they panned out, you got to see the whole pit.
Good episode, but I think we all get in the habit of expecting too much from these finales

I was very disappointed it did not feel like a season finale. The 9/11 tribute was very nice. Franco and the brother practicing for the exam was nice. Probie with the brother and sister made me not only laugh but also made me feel dirty like I needed to take a shower. Sean and maggie were entertaining as usual. If this was a regular episode I would think it was solid and look forward to the next week. All the build up for the whole season left me with thats it when the credits rolled.
I had to make an account just for this thread.
As a regular episode, I liked this one a lot; but as a season finale it was decent. I agree with Paperboy2003, maybe people start to expect too much from a season finale.
There were a lot of parts in this episode that had me R.O.F.L'ing. The scene on the dock, Franco and the brother studying (forgot his name), "Uh.. guys.. I don't think I'm Bi anymore." And I liked the opening too, a bit touching. The way everything wrapped up and kept all the guys together seemed a bit cliche, but it was still nice.
Anyone else find it a bit sad that no one seemed to care about Jerry and his heart attack? And it bother's me that everyone was over Johnny's death in the episode that he was found dead.

The 9/11 speeches, while good intentioned, were extremely forced. It was like they weren't even acting, but rather just trying to look like they really cared while giving a speech.
I know that Dennis Leary has his fire fighters foundation, which is a great thing, but the speeches got a little too preachy for my tastes when they started getting into the part about the politicians.
Other than that it was a pretty solid episode. It was very predictable though that the crew wasn't going to break up (I mean we already knew that it was renewed for next year, and if they didn't break up the crew last season, it isn't going to happen).
I do think last season was better overall, but this is still one of the best, if not the best shows on tv. Oh, and the beginning felt a lot like a sopranos episode, but done way way better.

1. Just 'cuz her husband was firefighter doesn't mean she knows how to do anything. Sheila strikes me as someone afraid to break a nail scratching an itch.
2. She doesn't call 911 because in her sick twisted mind she was pissed at Tommy and probably wanted him dead. She was a lot closer to starting the car and driving away, and then changed her mind.
3. As previously mentioned, Tommy was drugged.

You don't think she was pissed? She certainly didn't appear to calm as she was ranting and throwing things around, which is of course what started the fire. How's anyone going to know about the roofies, they'll just think Tommy drank too much as usual and passed out like the previous time when she raped him.

She was pissed, but I really don't think she wanted him dead. How would they know about the roofies? I dunno, guy in a house he's never been to dies in a fire and is a firefighter, I suspect that they might do an autopsy. And if he lived, I doubt she'd have enough time to make him look like he drank a lot like last time.

An alcoholic firefighter dies in a fire and you think they would do an autopsy of the charred remains? I'm not so sure about that.

I was shocked Franco didn't try to have the retarded brother take the test for him.
When Sheila first got in the car I felt she wanted Tommy to burn, because she was mega pissed at him. But after a minute she realized she really loves him and couldn't be responsible for his death. I am guessing he will find out about her drugging him now.

Nice attempt at a 911 tribute, but the dialog was unusually stilted for a show that excells at dialog. Kudos for the effort.
A very weak last episode. No, I was not expecting too much, just a normal week's good writing and dialog. Gotta luv the retard though.

This show amazes me. The things they say "under their breath" are hilarious at times. And Artie Lange as the cousin (?). He did a great job. I wonder, though...in a previous episode he was shown on the phone...was it Artie then too? That dock scene was hilarious...seeing a firefighter with sea legs. And some of the stuff they say really requires the sound to be turned up. Personally I find this show very, very funny, even with all the serious aspects.
FWIW, BestBuy has Season 1 and 2 on sale for $19.99 each, through today (9/2). Website shows Season 1 by delivery only, not in store. I need to see these and this appears to be a good price, even with shipping cost.

Yea, especially if he's in a coma for like four or five episodes, similar to Tony Soprano...
Was able to pick up both Season 1 & 2 at that BestBuy sale. Hoping Season 3 and beginning of 4 will be on FX soon again.
