Long question from a newbie, so please forgive.
I have had the Series2 RCA DVR40 for 3 years and love it – never had any problems.
I am getting ready to move and wanted to add another, more beefy, DirecTV-TiVo DVR. When I called DirecTV I found out they have divorced from TiVo and now have their own brand of DVRs. After talking to DirecTV and the folks at TiVo, and reading online, I don’t think I want their system.

Now to my question(s). My goal is to keep TiVo and make sure I keep several features I already have and add some additional features. I need advice on how to accomplish this.

I want to keep:
Ability to record 2 shows at the same time.
Have the same TiVo menu-interface as my current box.
Keep the feature that lets me flip between two channels and be able to rewind the one I was not watching even though I did not request it to be recorded.

What I was hoping add:
A second box that does all of the above including recording 2 different shows than box #1.
Ability to move recordings between the two boxes.
Burn recorded shows to a DVD.
Increase storage space on one or both boxes.

I am not versed in coed but somewhat computer literate. I am also a little gun-shy of cracks and the like. I do have an IT guy that might be able to help if need be.
Thank you in advance for your help.

I do have an IT guy that might be able to help if need be.There's a script called the zipper that reduces the knowledge needed to hack DTiVo units. To execute the script requires basic PC skills and the ability to follow directions. Head to the underground for it.

Used Directivos are available on ebay. Also, new units are available from weaknees.com. Both weaknees.com and ptvupgrade.com sell used units without hard drives that you can build your own hard drive for.
