Oh. My. God. I laughed so hard during the masturbation lecture from the uncle. It was so wrong.

"Maybe he has a potassium deficiency."

Oh, and Nancy, married to the DEA agent? As soon as I saw that she was on a plane, I knew she had married him. It was too obvious. However, it is an interesting development.

I rented the first-first season DVD recently.....very poor show IMO. I was dissapointed, as I have heard really great things.

IMHO this series is beginning to lose its way. The gimmick of having Nancy marry a DEA agent is far-fetched, to say the least. And I wonder how well his argument that Nancy is small potatoes compared to the major cases a big shot like himself pursues would play with his bosses at the DEA.

However, each episode has a few cleverly written and very funny scenes, mostly involving the ne'er-do-well bro-in-law or Nancy's accountant, and I still enjoy it, much as you might a series of sketches in a comedy show.

I was completely perplexed why they would show her on a plane, and then just show up back home. It didn't even occur to me that they would fly to Vegas & get married. yes, that protects her from his job, but what about her partners?

After Andy's masterbation lecture I wondered why I didn't have a cool uncle who could explain stuff like that to me when I was that age, but I still don't get the banana peel method...

Very funny episode. I think the little girl should have been nominated for a supporting actress Emmy. She's hysterical.

I'm looking forward to seeing this again now that my dish is re-aligned. What have I missed this season outside of this marriage thing?

yes, that protects her from his jobNo it doesn't. The whole married thing makes no sense.

The husband could still be forced to disclose anything that he discussed with her before the marriage. Since he already knew that she was a drug dealer, the marriage doesn't protect her.

It's a TV show. Any resemblance between it and the real world is purely a coincidence.

IANAL, but as far as I know you can't be compelled to testify against your spouse,
no matter what period of time that testimony covers. The law doesn't deal with when the alleged illegal activity occurs, just if you are married at the time of the questioning.

Okay is it just me or does the son not deserve the girlfriend? She's smart, funny and hot, he's an ******* without a lot going on.

The wanking briefing should be required viewing for all slightly prepubescent males. Kind of like the films they used to show all the fifth and sixth grade girls in school.

Were Chiquita and Dole sponsors on that show? I skip all the commercials.

Well, a spouse can't be forced to testify, but he always could testify if he wants to.

However, I would just think the fact that he married her, knowingly, would be enough to discredit him.

Oh, and as far as what to do with the banana peel....you eat the banana and u se the peel as a soft recepticle for your shaft. :D

I didn't finish watching last season, but this season is great so far. Did they fire all the writers from last season?

The highlight for me had to be how matter-of-fact the plumber was when he mentioned the concept of the "jerksocks." Not to mention Celia's "I gotta go ice my beaver," as well as her "C U Next Tuesday!" remark as she left the house.

Although yes, Andy's speech to Shane was hilarious. Far-fetched marriage issue aside, this show is still fantastic.

Would that make bananas bisexual or equal opportunity?

Uhhhh...the whole idea of a yuppy housewife selling pot is far-fetched to begin with. So if you can go with that premise, why is the marriage any more unbelievable? I thought it was an amazing plot-twist.

This season's first three episodes are the first time we've watched this show, but so far, it's fantastic IMHO. Laughed so hard during most of this episode. My favorite was when the women were one-upping Celia at the exercise class and she just gave up and said "F*@$ you! to them. Followed closely by the lecture by the uncle and the look on the kid's face throughout it.

I really enjoyed the episode. This show is flat-out hysterical at times, and because of that, it's worth it to me to suspend my disbelief of events like Nancy marrying the DEA agent. That being said...

I loved Nancy being all uncomfortable talking to Shane about his, uh, 'sock love', and then the abrupt, matter-of-fact way she handed it off to Andy -- "Talk to Shane about jerking off." Fantastic monologue material from Andy talking to Shane. Shane didn't say a single word through his whole speech, either! Andy, the brother-in-law, while annoying, is thoroughly entertaining as a cast member. Plus, I think it's quite obvious he's going to get to have sex with the hot Israeli girl very, very soon. Lucky Andy.

As to the comment about Silas having a smart, hot girlfriend he doesn't deserve -- yeah, I may be in my 30s but I do remember what high school was like, and lord knows I was pretty much a total idiot back then. Yet I still had some very smart, very nice, very attractive girls attending to my every need. I'd venture to guess that nothing much has changed since then, and the great girls still want the moronic guys.

Uhhhh...the whole idea of a yuppy housewife selling pot is far-fetched to begin with. This is something I can totally believe, because I've seen it. Maybe because I live in a more urban neighborhood, but it's still a nice neighborhood with fancy houses, families with kids, etc. I know for a fact that there is some action going on my my 'hood.

Yep, Weeds and Veronica Mars: The best writing on TV as far as I'm concerned.

Of course, Andy's "On it" response to Nancy was pefect.

Somebody has to sell all the pot being grown in suburbia -- I think Agrestic must be somewhere near Elk Grove.

do you just listen to the show? if you WATCH it as well, you will see why she's dating him ;) :D

besides, he's a nice kid and actually pretty smart...but he's a typical teenage boy in that he has not learned yet to think before he speaks (you know...all the blood is still flowing to the other head)...

Just to clear up the whole spouse testifying thing.

In CA there are two spousal privileges. First, he (DEA dude) cannot be forced to testify against his spouse (there are some exceptions having to do with abuse of their kids etc).

Second, if he chooses to testify, he cannot testify about privileged communications since the marriage. Now this only applies to "communications", so he can still testify about what he sees. For example, if your husband walked in the door covered in blood and said, "I just killed the neighbor", you could (if you wanted to) testify you saw your hubby come home covered in blood but you could not testify about his statement as he entered (assuming the husband invoked the privilege at trial).

Hope that clears things up.

Yes he can.
So in other words, his marriage to Nancy doesn't protect her at all.

Before he was married, he could turn her in if he wanted to.
After they were married, he could still turn her in if he wanted to.

She is no better off...

I know he talked about how he can't testify against her...but I look at it more as a gesture of how much she can trust him and how much he loves her...

Exactly. This seems to be a common TV/movie element that is introduced so everybody thinks the bad spouse is covered... but as you can see... not so much.
