I love my Tivo and want to get another one. We received ours as a gift from a sister. Nice sister!
I am wondering what to go for with a second one. Ours now holds just 40 hours, but I don't think we have ever maxed it. I am looking more for an upstairs/downstairs arrangement. One for the bedroom, one for the living room.
What is the newest technology in tivo that you really like?
Assuming you have cable, what kind of cable do you have? Basic channels? Digital?
I have a Series2 dual tuner and I love it. I have the 80hour which was a step up from my 40hour S2 but you can also get a 180hour. Only downside with the DT and digital cable is the ability to record one analog and one digital, or two analogs. But it works great for standard cable.
If you have digital cable, are able to get CableCards from your cable company, and want to record HD all for a pretty penny, you could wait for the Series3 which should be coming out within a month or so.

I like the dual tuners, but as this is your second tivo, you might consider another single tuner. There are some good deals right now for both series 2 units--
http://www.tivo.com/0.11.baseball.asp
gives you a single tuner for free with a one year commitment to $12.95 a month, or if you'd rather, a dual tuner for $30 + $12.95/mo. I just got the dual tuner option for my parents.
That's the best price I could find . . .

Considering the S2DT has only a $30 price premium over the S2, and it has a faster CPU, twice the RAM (64MB compared to 32MB), and built-in Ethernet - I really can't recommend a single-tuner S2 to anyone anymore. The S2DT is the only one I'd recommend (unless you're talking S3). Especially with the slowdown 7.3.1 brought - the S2DT is almost unaffected.

All that and you forgot the fact that it has Dual Tuners! ;) :)

I agree completely! Although I think most important part is the dual tuners - most people will just be confused and annoyed by a single tuner. Doesn't make a good impression. They should make the DT the base unit.

They should make the DT the base unit.
There is still a small niche of folks who have no use for a DT box - Those with a satellite system, for example.

They should make the DT the base unit.I'm sure it will be once the stock of S2s is sold off.
The S2DT is the only one I'd recommend (unless you're talking S3).
Or unless you need to record from OTA broadcasts - then the single tuner model may still be an option.

He at least said it should be released soon. That implies the "rumored" bit...
