View Full Version : 6th ave has HR10-250 for $308. Anyone buy?
I am thinking about leasing a HR10-250 from them for $308. $100 less than what DirecTV will give me one for.
Anyone else buy from them? Why are these so much cheaper to least than directly from DirecTV. Does not make any sense.
This does not include any kind of rebate. It is $308, atleast when I put it in my cart.

I haven't bought an HR10-250 from them, but I did buy a SD D-TiVo from them in July 2005. I also bought a DVD player and a DVD recorder from them. I wouldn't hesitate to give them repeat business.

I got mine from them, back in February, 1 week before D* started the lease crap.
I'd buy from them again, if I got to own it, no lease for me.

Call DTV Customer Retention at 1-800-824-9081 and you can get 1 for free. If they don't offer you one for free the first time call back and eventually you'll get one. Ask for a manager as a last resort. They will give one away, they need to get rid of these old units because the new HR20's are coming soon. I got a free HR10-250 with free Install and new 5LNB dish and 4 months free HD programming. HR10 is working fine, had it for a couple weeks. Menu is Slow but picture is Great in HD and SD, OTA works great with the Local Channels in HD. Good Luck
awc00b were you an existing customer?
I have called 8 times, yes 8 times. I can not get them to give me a free hr10-250. But I am a completely new customer.
I have used the retention number each time. They are a lot nicer than the regular number. Had many pleaseant long calls but can not get them to give me one free.
I did go back and read the threads about this offer on, avsforum. fatwallet, dbstalk and here. I have not found one documented case where they gave a hr10-250 free to a new customer. In all cases I have read about it has been an existing customer.
I do plan on calling once I am signed up and try again.

You do have to be an existing customer with a good history to get the free deal. The 6th Ave deal would be a good way to get your foot in the door.

Jym, I've been with Directv for over 10 years, Guess that's why I got it for Free. Your best bet would probably be to get the Free H20 they're offering to everyone to start and then call to upgrade to the HR10 later. Tell them your upgrade to the DVR service if they give you the HR10 for free. You can also try to get the HR10 free by telling them you'll order the Sunday Ticket. Retention is Great though isn't it. Called last month and they gave me a $50 credit for nothing plus the Premier Package free for 2 months, already was getting a $13 a month credit for a year plus the Starz Networks free for 6 months. Just keep at it and you'll get what you want. I wouldn't pay Directv $400 just to lease a Box that's already out of date.

Are any of you with HR10-250s running software version 6.2 or greater? Mine seems to be on version 3.1 and I don't have the grouping feature that I do on my other Tivo. Wondering if I need to call Directv since my other updates seem to be working.
Also wondering, if anyone knows, is it possible to network the HR10-250 with a standard DirecTivo (non-HD)? What is needed?
Thanks... TJ

You have the latest version. Rumor is an update to 6.3 is due out soon...but you'll have to consult the other thread (about 65 pages) for that.

I don't know about being an existing customer...but I had only been a customer for 6 months...and had their cheapest package that whole time, so I don't know how much "history" I had. Took 4 calls. The bottom line is to keep trying...but as a "haven't yet signed up" customer...you really have nothing to stand on. Once you're signed up, you always have the possibility of cancelling...and they hate that.
As I stated earlier I called many, many times. I could not get them to give me an HR10 for free. I was a customer, incredibly small customer, awhile ago. So I also tried this avenue as it allowed me to talk to the retention people with a account number.
Small customer as I use to pay $5 a month to just get HDNET. No hardware, other programming, etc. I used my Dish equipment to make this work. Interesting solution and very good deal.
I ended up signing up and I got a lot of discounts
HR10 - $100 off
DSL - $60 off bill
Another discount - $150 off
ShowTime - $50 off
DVD player - Worth about $75 to me
Referral - $75 to me and $25 to my brother
Hardware and installation for free
Then the regular ST deal, 4 months, this and that
Could not get the Ipod Shuffle for free
Matter of fact if I did not need 3+ HR10s this would be a great deal. The hardware is what kills this.
Normally I would have just singed up and saved a lot of time. But hearing, on just about every forum on the Internet, about people getting free HR10 inspired me. In the end I don't believe new customers can get an HR10 for free. I still have not found one documented case on any forum.
I am still hopefull on getting Superpass for free or discounted $50. We will see. I will also go through retention after the install and then see if I can get an HR10 for free. I also might try the DVR code thing on the web to see if I can get a R15 for free. But I really only like Tivo so this is a big IF.
Ultimately I am happy about everything except the long wait for an install.

Read the fine print VERY carefully at 6ave. When I was shopping for my second, I thought 6ave had a lease statement on their website. I just got my second one from electronics-expo for $315 to the door.
are you saying the deal with Electronics-expo is not a lease? I thought they were all lease deals unless you spent $800.

i can tell you from newegg it's not a lease. I did it in april but had to call and send a few emails to make sure they got it straight

Nope, it's only a lease if you agree to lease terms when you purchase it. When I was shopping, there were a couple of sites that had you agree to terms and conditions before purchase, and those T&C included a lease agreement from DirecTV (I thought 6ave was one of those sites). Electronics Expo didn't have this, and neither does Newegg, even though both sell the HR10 for well below $800. Don't let anyone at DirecTV make you think that just because you pay $315 for the receiver you don't really own it. Fortunately this wasn't a problem for me when I activated my new HR10 this week.
