View Full Version : Desktop 2.3a breaks Sony Camera mpgs

After installing Desktop 2.3a, the video mpgs from my Sony digital camera don't play correctly in WMP or the ATI File Viewer player. The video plays only the first few seconds (the progress bar goes all the way to the right), while the audio continues to the end. They do still play correctly in Nero (I guess Nero uses it's own filters & codecs.)

So after looking around in this forum, I downloaded graphedt, and l've learned that with Desktop 2.3a installed, the mpg files go thru MainConcept MPEG Demultiplexer. After uninstalling 2.3a, they go through something simply called MPEG-I Stream Splitter; right-clicking on this one says no properties info is available.

So how do I run Desktop, but still allow my camera files to play? I saw mentions of uninstalling the offending filter or reducing it's preference (? can't remember the exact term), but I don't know how to do this. Did I read that MainConcept is not needed unless I purchase Desktop Plus?

Can someone educate me?

Thanks much!

Never mind -- found the the answer here: Direct Show Filter Mgr - DSFMgr.exe (http://www.softella.com/dsfm/index.en.htm).

A very nice small, free, easy-to-use tool.

I decreased the MainConcept MPEG Demux merit value to "unlikely", and that did the trick.

Thanks for posting the resolution to this problem. I have had this same problem and TiVo desktop phone support was useless.

Thanks Again...

Thanks for this. I kept this page bookmarked until I finally loaded 2.3a. Worked like a charm!

Thanks so much, same problem for me and same fix works (once I decided that a reboot after making a change in dsfm makes changes take affect).
