View Full Version : Mythbusters guide data oddness (late August)

Back on Wed., Aug. 23, my TiVo recorded the Mythbusters episode 'Crimes and Mythdemeanors 2'. However, according to the guide data, it was supposed to be 'Grenades; garden communication'.
I then forced my TiVo to record a scheduled repeat of 'Grenades; garden communication' scheduled for tonight (Sat., Aug. 26). The episode that actually aired in that slot tonight was 'Outtakes'. That makes two different episodes that have aired under that title.
I'm on a S1 standalone, but I don't know if that would make a difference for the guide data. Hopefully this was a one-time thing, but you might double-check your recordings against the scheduled titles to make sure a) you're getting what you had scheduled, and b) it doesn't cause you to later miss the real broadcast of that episode.

It's happened before where The Discovery Channel has provided the wrong guide data for MythBusters (and I'm guessing therefore other shows, but MythBusters is the only one I regularly watch on that channel).
Fortunately, either way, TiVo will think it's new, unless you were hoping for a specific episode to be recorded.

Fortunately, either way, TiVo will think it's new, unless you were hoping for a specific episode to be recorded. It looks like this time the guide data had the same descriptive info for two different episodes. I don't think TiVo will record the second one if this happens within 28 days of the first show.

Rosenkavalier - Same here for me here in NH when I taped "'Grenades; garden communication" last week and got "Crimes and Mythdemeanors 2" (Which BTW was a great episode! But not what I really wanted). The guide data all season, not just for MythBuster has been screwed up a lot. I'm really not sure why this is happening either.
I'm also still trying to figure out why that the TV show listings also do not include the "R" for Repeat in any of the listings any longer. Anyone?
Thanks

It's also doing it for the show that often precedes MythBusters--Extreme Engineering. Set it to record an episode related to the building of an aircraft carrier, and got one on the construction of the tallest building in Spain.
Which turned out to be one heck of a show! :D

I just started watching Mythbusters a couple of weeks ago.
I might as well change the SP to get all episodes, since the chances are pretty good that I haven't seen them,
that way it doesn't miss ones I haven't seen due to bad guide data.

I noticed this and also when they did Shark Week, two episodes from the last Shark Week were were marked as new, however they were a repeat of the special from last year (I think last year). Was this because they were newly split from last year, or was that also two separate timeslots?

I think that Discovery simply reordered some of the episodes. I confirmed that from the epguides.com listing of mythbusters.
Hmm, I had thought that the Jaws episode was new. I watched a few mins of it, thought it was a rerun.. then started watching the whole thing since I didn't remember the rest..

I've noticed the same thing on Discovery. But the show I was recording was "How It Is Made" the guide data was not what actually aired.
The same thing happened once on the SciFi network. I have a SP set for "Eureka" and it recorded an episode of "Who Wants To Be A Superhero?"
My poor TiVo is in the hands of the Toshiba Service Department so I can't say what happened for the past week.
