You mean like the TiVo Home Media Feature allows you to transfer recordings between any (Series 2 w/ Ethernet or WiFi adaptor) TiVos in your home?

Once you set up the TiVos with network adaptors they will show up at the bottom of the Now Playing list on the other TiVo(s). To transfer a show select the remote TiVo, highlight the show you want to transfer and select 'Start Watching on This TiVo'. The show will be transferred as you watch.

That is what primarily got Replay sued, at least the plaintiffs in that case considered wholesale piracy of programs.

TiVo would have to tightly restrict the "web" of interconnected TiVos so that sich piracy is minimalised or eliminated.
