View Full Version : Need to run the object to perform......

I just downloaded the TTG + desktop, set my preferences for MPEG 4 (going to IPOD), entered media access key...and am getting this message when the show finishes transferring;

'Need to run the object to perform this operation'

The message appears in the system tray once the show transfers to the PC.

The show does not transfer to 'My TiVo Recordings for Portables', due to the error above. The show DOES transfer to the PC, as it always has, but the conversion is not taking place.

Any ideas?

You might try uninstalling and reinstalling the software. Sounds like the Tivoconverter did not get registered properly.

I did uninstall/reinstall once. Then last night, I did it again, but have not tried another transfer as I was getting ready to leave town for a while.

Anyway, I did put the software on my laptop and was able to get it to work (transferred the shows and desktop converted the shows for IPOD) properly. Then I moved the converted shows to the itunes software on the other machine that is having issues.

I will try again when home to see whether or not the second install went without fault.

Are you using the profile that says "MPEG4", without any otehr words, or the separate one for "MPEG4... for iPod". When I tried the "... for iPod" one it did the samething. I switched to MPEG4, and it works fine, plays on my iPod no problem.

I have uninstalled/reinstalled countless times now. I've performed numerous registery cleans, restarted windows, etc. I'm getting the same message.

After the show transfers, I get a message from the TiVo icon in the sysytem tray that says 'Need to run object to perfom this operation'. There is a part of this installation that is not running for some reason.

I have the portable device options set to convert to MPEG-4 - compatible devices, not the IPOD setting (found that on this forum, thank you for that).

The only thing I can think of next is shut down my Anti virus and firewall software as I do the next un-install/reinstall. I don't see how this was an issue at first since I run the same configuration on my laptop...and the laptop installation of TTG + has worked perfect since the first install.

Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated guys.

I've gotten the same problems. I've uninstalled, rebooted, and then reinstalled, with the same effect. Conversion just does not happen.

I'm running Windows XP MCE 2005 with the latest updates.

This is not really a solution, but what if you tried to use this (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=305532) to convert the files after they are transferred instead?

I tried....same error.

I appreciate the 'convert after transfer' idea. I am, however, trying to delete steps in the process of getting the shows to my Ipod. I can pull the shows to my laptop, then shuck them up to my desktop, then transfer to the Ipod, no problem. It just takes time.

It just irks me that the install went fine on the machine I really don't need TTG + on. There has to be an easy solution.

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help me out.

Then it must be an installation problem. Some library or something required for the "Plus" portion of TiVo Desktop Plus isn't working properly.

Try uninstalling, then going through the registry and remove any reference to TiVo ... maybe that will help a clean re-install.

Just tried uninstalling/reinstalling (again). This time, after uninstalling, I did a complete registry scrub using two seperate programs.

Then I reinstalled the program san antivirus and firewall running (out of ideas, just trying something new).

As I began the first transfer...I got a message that Explorer had encountered an error, specifically; WB5TrayContainer;Explorer.EXE. Don't know if this is associated with TTG+ or not. Stopped my transfer, restarted, and this time I shut some things down.

I shut down a Vaio Media Agent that was used to record live tv to the computer. It had a recorder set up and was not happy to be shut down. I also shut down another program that could be used to record tv.

I restarted my transfer, waited the 42 minutes for it to transfer...and I got the same message I've stated above. All my work for not.

I will try the registry edit on my own this time, deleting anything associated with TiVo. Obviously there is something left in the registry. When reinstallation is complete, my Media Access Key is already onboard and the upgrade is already done for me!

You're onto something there, for sure. Apparently TiVo's uninstall isn't scrubbing everything out.

Sorry you went through all that work for nothing. :(

Success! I deleted again, registry cleaned. Then, as suggested, went into Registry Edit, and wiped all instances of TiVo clean (there were plenty).

Reinstalled, now the software was asking was Media Access Key and to upgrade to Desktop +. After both keys, started the transfer and now it is converting the first transfer.

Thanks for all the ideas, it's probably way basic to most, but another Windows Accomplishment in my book :)

Sweet! Glad it worked!

I dropped a line in the suggestion box (http://research.tivo.com/suggestions/) on TiVo's site suggesting they fix the TiVo Desktop uninstall process. That could save people a lot of hassle.

I never posted a followup - I cleaned the registry after uninstalling. After a reinstall, it all worked.
