My tivo unit waits about 2 minutes and then reboots, constantly. Just started today, and got the new software update 48 hours ago. Is this a coincidence and my harddrive failing, or could this be related?
Thanks

I am pretty sure it is related, because I get the same problem. I called tech support, they told me to unplug the wireless adapter for an hour plug it back in and try again. It didn't help. Then they told me that they have to replace the tivo for $150!! :mad: I asked if they could rollback that Kids Zone update, but they can't. I asked if I could get a new Tivo and transfer my subscription, but I can't do that either. I think they just want you to give $150 because you have a lifetime service that they no longer offer. I think if this happens to enough people, we should start a class action lawsuit.

On a hunch I unplugged my adapter (without plugging back in) and no reboot in 30 mins (which, so far, is much better).

One of my Tivos is doing the exact same thing, and I also suspect the upgrade. (it has been off the network for a while and just got the update)
Will try disconnecting the ethernet adapter and seeing if it will boot.
Will report back here later.

Pulling the adapter allowed it to boot. Haven't tried plugging it back in yet.
If I do plug back in and the machine has to restart (power loss, update, whatever) is it just going to go back into this failed booting loop. I'd rather not, say, leave town to comeback to find the thing has been rebooting constantly for days on end.

Yeah mine is still rebooting with the adapter in... does anyone know if tivo is working on this problem?

I have a similar problem although mine doesn't reboot as often as some of you. I tried to unplug the usb adapter but only waited about a minute. I have been having some transfer issues recently as wel as the "slowness" many others reported with the Kid Zone update. ANyone found an answer or have any further updates on their situation?

I am yet another suffering similar problems.
I unplugged the wireless adaptor completely, but found the TIVO would still reboot randomly. Then I realized it was nearly always happening while I was watching something. (I figured this because it seemed to always record programs flawlessly while I was not watching something recorded or Live TV.)
Then I realized that I could almost guarantee the TIVO to reboot if I tried to use my dish network remote for anything.
So perhaps it is more than just the wireless adapter that can cause this random reboot
Any suggestions welcome...
TIVO has really gone down in my estimation recently with all these bugs. Previosuly I was a big advocate, and would recommend it to everyone, now I would recommend against getting one.

Same problem. Tivo reboots continuously. When I unplug the wireless adapter, the reboots stop and Tivo functions perfectly. I have gone 12 days with it unplugged and no reboots. When I plug the wireless back in, the reboots start back up.

I had a 540 S2 unit that began rebooting every two minutes about a month ago.
I call Tech Support and they suggested a refub exchange. At no time did she suggest I unplug my wireless adaptor even though I mentioned I was using one.
=====================
The exchange took a month to do - don't get me started on how they messed that up. :mad:
=====================
Tuesday, I hooked the refurb unit up with the DLink DWL-G120 wireless adapter I'd been using with the bad unit.
Everything went fine for a couple of hours. I got hooked up to my network and downloaded the program info. I left the room and came back later and saw that the refurb TiVo had rebooted and then there was a message telling me that it had just downloaded the Kidzone update. While I was reading the message the TiVo rebooted again. And continued to reboot after two minutes use until I did some searching here on the forum and found info on unplugging the wireless adapter. The rebooting stopped. I have since found out that the version of my wireless adapter used to be on the approved list, but no longer is. I moved the refurb into the same room as my router and use a USB/Ethernet adapter to hook it up to the network and it works fine.
During the month I was waiting for the refurb unit to arrive, I had 649 DT unit hooked up to the DLink adapter and it worked fine. When I try to use the adapter now after removing it from the refurb unit, the DT unit now reboots every two minutes. :mad: It's in a room at the other side of the house from my router so I have hook it back up to the telephone line until I can get a TiVo branded adapter to see if that fixes the problem.
What I'm really disappointed about is that I had to waste a couple of hours with TiVo (mostly on hold) trying to get help, and then trying to find out what was taking so long on the exchange, and then spending hours dealing with hooking and unhooking these units up and waiting for the reboots. All this wasted time and expense ($49 for the exchange+$29 USB/Ethernet+$59 TiVo branded adapter) all for a TiVo unit that probably had nothing wrong with it except it became incompatible with my adapter after the software update and support didn't even mention that possibility to me.
Kidzone is a wireless adapter incompatibility revealer (not to mention the slowdowns).
That's my story - the short version. :rolleyes:
Thanks for all the posts here in the forum that did help me figure out what was going on. :up:

For those of us with the reboot problem who are unable to finish the program info update:
I found out something neat last night (forgive me if this has been posted already) go ahead an connect your tivo to your wireless adapter and download the update. once it gets to the loading seciton go ahead and unplug your adapter. It will continue to load the program info and you can live life happily until the tivo runs out of program data again or tivo releases a fix for this problem.
I just wish it wasnt happening to so many of us. I wonder if theres a way to update the firmware on the network adapter itself :confused:
