Okay--longtime TiVo user (see joined date) but very much out of the loop because I've been playing with a Media Center PC for the last 8 months or so. And I'm having a hard time even thinking of a good way to search for the answer to my question. It's kind of a weird situation.

Due to my current housing scenario, I don't have a cable box. I'm not getting a cable box. I do, however, have access to some analog cable channels, as well as both digital and HD locals (all delivered via cable). I know this because my television has a built-in HD/digital tuner and I am able to tune in various channels.

I have an older model Series2 standalone TiVo. It can see the analog channels. I don't really use it much, though, and have been considering turning it off entirely (see Media Center PC).

But I was on the TiVo site and saw that they now make 'digital'-compatible series 2 boxes, and I'm wondering how much functionality I would get out of these "DT" boxes with a direct cable connection (again, no cable box. Not getting one). Will it natively tune and record the digital signals? Also, I know it won't record HD, but any chance it would grab those signals and downconvert?

Thanks in advance. If I'm missing something really obvious, let me know.

No the S2 DT will not tune the digital channels. The upcoming S3 will be able to however. The DT will tune all the analog channels and record 2 shows at once from a single analog source however.
