ok, I've used these forums when I first got my tivo and everyone was extremely helpful then so hopefully I'll get lucky again!

I realize my issue is a common one, but I've been searching and searching and I can't find an answer. I moved to a new apartment with a whole new cable provider so I need to redo guided setup, but I have no phone line here. In my old apartment I did original guided setup with a friend's phone and then had tivo up on my wired network.

I have the usb-ethernet adaptor all plugged in and I'm trying to make it work. First, I made sure that my tivo was unplugged while i hooked up the ethernet and then plugged it in. I entered " ,#401 " as my dialing prefix and said no to call waiting and no to search for dial tone, but tivo cannot make the connect call. I have my modem running to a linksys network switch and my computer and the tivo plugged into that switch

Can i either 1. run guided setup straight through the network? (tried it, couldn't find the network) or
2. am i doing something wrong with the ,#401?

thanks to anyone who can help, i really appreciate it.

No chance at using a friend's landline again?

And is using the net connection something new for you, or is it that what you did before just isn't working?

a landline really isn't an option at the moment because I'm new to town so I have no close friends nearby

Before I was able to do it the "standard" way, which is to say I ran guided setup on my phone line and then hooked it up to my network.

this time, I'm trying to run guided setup on my network and I can't make it work. Actually right not i'm trying to get back to the beginning of guided setup to switch it into "demo mode" or something like that but it doesn't want to exit the phone options screen
