More time when "pausing"

I want to be able to get more time to pause/rewind live TV before it starts to just play on its own. How should I go about upping the ammount to an hour or so ?

I have a series 2 DT DVR.

I don't believe that's possible in quite that way. If I anticipate having to be away from it for more than several minutes (ff'ing through commercials usually catch me up in that case), I just tell it to record what I'm watching. That'll increase the bar to at least however long the program is.

Yeah thats what I usually do to. But I think it would be cool also for when switching between tuners and you realize theres a really cool show on that lasts an hour and 45 mins of it is up. Well you can only go back 30 minutes of it PLUS once you get back there you can't pause it except for maybe after a little commercial time.

You're talking about increasing the size of the buffer, and the TiVo doesn't come with that feature.

There may be ways to hack it to achieve this.
